Pitt Falls 4-3 at No. 14 North Carolina

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Pitt baseball (8-6, 0-2) fell 4-3 at No. 14 North Carolina (13-2, 2-0) Saturday afternoon at Boshamer Stadium. Scoring four unanswered runs on two homers, the Tar Heels won on a walk-off solo shot to right center with one out.
The Panthers broke open a scoreless game in the fourth inning. Ron Washington, Jr. led off with a double to right field and advanced to third base on a wild pitch. After Kyle Hess walked and stole second base, Washington, Jr. tagged up and slid home safely on a sac fly to left field from Jordan Anderson.
Pitt's other two runs came in the fifth inning. Leadoff batter Johnny Long reached on an error, and Jeffrey Wehler singled with one out to right field. With two outs, the second basebam dropped a fly ball from Washington, Jr. affected by strong wind in right centerfield that allowed both Long and Wehler to both score.
The Tar Heels tied it up in the next inning with a three-run homer to left center with two outs.
The finale of the series is Sunday at 1 p.m.
