Panthers Finish Second at Texas Woman’s Quad Meet

DENTON, Texas— In a quad meet at Texas Woman's (7-11, 0-0 MIC) versus No. 6 LSU (8-2, 4-2 SEC) and Centenary College (0-8, 0-2 MIC), the University of Pittsburgh gymnastics team (10-7, 4-2 EAGL) placed second with a team score of 195.600 Friday night at Kitty Magee Arena.
Senior Katie Chamberlain had a standout night, with all three scores crossing the 9.850 threshold. The Simi Valley, Calif. native recorded her third consecutive score of 9.900 or higher on bars with a 9.900, earned a career-high 9.850 on vault and a team-high 9.850 on beam.
Freshman Hallie Copperwheat finished second overall in the all-around with a score of 39.150.
Pitt fell short to No. 6 LSU Tigers (197.625) but came out ahead of host Texas Woman's (195.450) and Centenary College (188.075).
FLOOR
The Panthers started the night off strong with all six competitors earning a 9.725 or higher on floor. Two freshmen earned the highest scores for Pitt with Sidney Washington earning a team-high 9.875 in the anchor spot and Jordyn Ewing with a 9.825 in the fourth spot. Three Panthers earned a 9.775 – senior Olivia Miller, junior Erin Hutchison, and Copperwheat. The team combined to earn a 49.025.
VAULT
The second rotation was highlighted by Chamberlain's career-high 9.850, in addition to Copperwheat and Washington both scoring a 9.800. Washington has earned a 9.800 or higher on vault in all but one meet throughout her collegiate career. Miller recorded a 9.750 in the lead-off position, followed by junior Lauren Beckwith who tied her season-high 9.700 for the third time this season. An event score of 48.900 boosted the Panthers' score to 97.925 to sit in second place at the halfway point.
BARS
Pitt combined to earn their highest team score of the night (49.250) in the third rotation on bars. Chamberlain earned her third consecutive bars score of a 9.900 or higher with a team-high 9.900. Ewing and Copperwheat scored 9.875s, Washington tied her career-high 9.850, and graduate student Kailey Gillings earned a 9.750. The team entered the final rotation with a 147.175.
BEAM
Chamberlain led-off the final event with a team-high 9.850. Beckwith scored a 9.725, Copperwheat rounded out her pursuit of the all-around with a 9.700, and senior Kiley Robatin recorded a 9.650. The Panthers ended the night with a final team score of 48.425.

The Panthers return home for the final home meet of the season vs. Towson on Sunday, March 6 at 2 p.m. at the Fitzgerald Field House. We will honor and celebrate our seniors after competition prior to the awards ceremony.
