Pitt Beats Bradley 4-3 to Begin Music City College Classic

NASHVILLE – Pitt baseball (3-2) defeated Bradley (2-2) in the opener of the Music City College Classic Friday afternoon at Dugan Field. The Braves had the game-tying run on third base with two outs in the ninth inning following a sac fly, but Hayden Summers struck out the next batter looking to secure the win.
The Panthers took the lead in their first trip to the plate. Jeffrey Wehler reached on a fielding error from the shortstop with one out. After advancing on a Tatem Levins' single through the right side and a wild pitch, Wehler reached home on an RBI-groundout from Ron Washington, Jr.
The Braves tied it up in the next inning on an RBI-single with two outs that came right after a passed ball to put the runner in scoring position.
Pitt took the lead again in the fifth inning. The bases were loaded with no outs with Bryce Hulett and Jordan Anderson singling through the infield and Brock Franks dropping a single in front of the left fielder. Sky Duff knocked in Hulett with a single through the right side.
The Panthers added to their lead in the next inning. Kyle Hess drew a leadoff walk and went to third base on a one-out single through the right side by Hulett. Anderson laid down an RBI-sac bunt to allow Hess to race home for the run.
Bradley cut into its deficit in the seventh inning with a one-out solo homer to right field.
Ron Washington, Jr. pushed it back to a two-run lead in the eighth inning, hitting the first pitch of the of the frame over the right field wall for his first homer of the year.
Pitt faces Bradley again Saturday at 12 p.m. ET as part of a doubleheader with a game against the host Lipscomb directly afterwards.

NOTES
- Matt Gilbertson (1-1) started and went five innings with no earned runs, three hits, three walks and four strikeouts.
- Summers recorded his second save of the season, recording the last six outs with no earned runs, two hits, one walk and one strikeout.
- Duff extended his reached-base streak to 26 games.
- Hulett went 2-3 with a hit-by-pitch.
- Hess was the only other Panther to reach twice with a hit and walk.
