Pitt Travels to Georgia Tech for ACC Matchup

PITTSBURGH – The Pitt men's and women's swimming and diving teams travel to Atlanta, Ga. to face off against Georgia Tech and Boston College Saturday, Nov. 5, for an ACC matchup.

LAST TIME OUT
The Panthers opened their season with a double dual meet against Penn State and Notre Dame October 21-22. The men's team earned a win over Penn State, but despite both teams not finishing first overall, Pitt had a strong season opener with several top finishes.
Senior Jerry Chen won the 100-yard breaststroke (53.99) and the 200-yard breaststroke (1:58.63), while finishing second overall in the 200-yard individual medley (1:51.59). Junior Marcin Goraj claimed first-place finishes in the 200-yard backstroke (1:44.88) and the 200-yard freestyle (1:38.15).
The times set by both Chen (100 Y Breast) and Goraj (200 Y Back) last weekend both rank 20th overall among college swimmers in their respective events. The men's 400-yard medley relay team of Goraj, Cooper Van der Laan, Adam Mahler, and Flynn Crisci ranks 21st overall with a time of 3:15.46.
Top finishes for the women included Abby Licht (10:10.86), Jacqueline Tinneny (10:12.76), and Emily Bucaro (10:13.68) going 1-2-3 overall in the 1000-yard freestyle. The 400-yard medley relay team of Claire Jansen, Tatum Detwiler, Kate Bailey, and Kate Fuhrmann finished first to Notre Dame, second overall, with the 23rd best time in the nation of 3:43.58.
On the diving side, senior Dylan Reed went unbeaten in both the men's 1-meter and 3-meter events as freshman Rachel Dickerson made a strong debut by claiming first in the women's 1-meter event.
The Panthers will meet both Georgia Tech and Boston College in a double dual meet for the first time since the 2016-17 season opener. The Pitt women's team finished first overall, defeating the Eagles 237-62 and the Yellow Jackets 162-137. The men's team picked up a win over the Eagles, 203-96, and fell to the Jackets, 199-100.
Pitt and Georgia Tech also faced off in a 2017 dual meet where both the men's and women's teams fell by the scores of 168-132 and 183.5-116.5, respectively.
