Strong Performances Propel Pitt Women Past Boston College

ATLANTA – The Pitt women's swimming and diving team picked up their first win of the season over Boston College, 187.5-112.5, and fell to Georgia Tech, 128-172, during an ACC matchup at the McAuley Aquatic Center early Saturday afternoon.
The women's team won 12 of 16 events against Boston College and won six events against Georgia Tech.
"Our women's team did a fantastic job competing today," said head coach Chase Kreitler. "We had great energy on deck and attacked all the races. We have put a really solid training block together the last few months and we know that work will prepare us to be at our best at the ACC and NCAA meets. Rachel Dickerson and Claire Jansen did a great job today picking up two overall wins each to lead our team."
The freshman duo of Rachel Dickerson and Claire Jansen helped propel the Panthers to a win over Boston College. Dickerson dominated the springboards, claiming first in both the 1-meter (286.60) and the 3-meter (299.95).
On the diving side, Jess Vega and Emma Gravgaard earned fourth (266.30) and fifth place (263.65), respectively, in the 1-meter. In the 3-meter, Vega claimed fifth (266.20) while Gravgaard earned sixth (253.40).
"The women's diving team did a great job today," said diving head coach Katie Kasprzak. "They competed some new dives we have been working on and we will only see their confidence grow as we compete more. They have been training hard and it was great to see them show grit today. To top it off both Rachel and Jess got their NCAA Zone Score today."
Jansen picked up two first-place finishes for the Panthers in the 100-yard backstroke (57.51) and in the 200-yard backstroke (2:00.89).
The Panthers finished 1-2 to Boston College, second and third overall, in the 400-yard freestyle relay. The team of Jansen, Avery McFaddin, Maya Gendzel, and Olivia Yoo finished with the time of 3:29.16, as Sophie Yendell, Kate Fuhrmann, Kate Bailey, and Janelle Schulz finished just behind with a time of 3:29.77.
The Panthers were able to earn event wins from Yendell in the 50-yard freestyle (23.29) and from Bailey in the 100-yard freestyle (51.75).
The Pitt men's and women's diving teams are back in action Friday, November 11-12, as the Panthers will host George Washington at Trees Pool. The men's and women's swimming teams will also host Georgia Washington Nov. 18-19.
