Panthers Complete Tri-Meet at No. 25 North Carolina

CHAPEL HILL, N.C.—The University of Pittsburgh gymnastics team (2-3, 1-2 EAGL) fell against EAGL rivals, No. 25 North Carolina (6-4, 4-1 EAGL) and Towson (5-2, 2-2 EAGL) Friday night at Carmichael Arena.
Freshman Sidney Washington earned the highest vault score for the Panthers so far this season with a career-high 9.875. Freshman Hallie Copperwheat finished third in the all-around competition, earning two-career high scores on floor (9.800) and vault (9.825) en route to a 39.200.
The Panther's 194.300 is the team's second highest score of the season.

- Copperwheat earned the Panthers' highest score with a 9.775, followed by senior Katie Chamberlain's 9.700. Washington started her pursuit of the all-around with a 9.625. Panthers concluded the first rotation with a 48.175.
- Chamberlain led off the Panthers, starting strong with a 9.775. Copperwheat anchored the event for Pitt, tallying the team's highest score for the second consecutive event with a 9.800. Senior Kiley Robatin also recorded a 9.775. Panthers surpassed the halfway point with 96.450 points.
FLOOR
- The team gained momentum on floor with four Panthers garnering scores over the 9.800 threshold. Junior Erin Hutchison tied her career-high 9.850 with the Panthers' highest score in the event, earning third overall. Freshman Jordyn Ewing earned a career-high 9.800, as well as fellow rookies Copperwheat and Washington. Pitt's team score, 49.025, combined to give them 145.425 points entering the final event.
VAULT
- Washington concluded the meet on a high note anchoring to earn a career-high 9.875 – the highest vault score for Pitt this season. Copperwheat and Ewing tallied their second career-highs of the night with 9.825 and 9.625 respectfully.
UP NEXT
- Pitt will return home to host the University of Alaska, NC State, and West Virginia in a quad meet, Sunday Feb. 6 at 2 p.m. in the Fitzgerald Field House.
