
Panthers Return Home for First Quad Meet of the Season

PITTSBURGH, Pa.—The University of Pittsburgh gymnastics team (2-3, 1-2 EAGL) returns to the Fitzgerald Field House for its second home meet of 2022, hosting a quad meet with N.C. State (6-1, 1-1 EAGL), West Virginia (2-3, 0-2 Big 12), and Alaska-Anchorage (0-3, 0-3 MPSF), Sunday, Feb. 6 at 2 p.m.
This will be the Panthers' first quad meet of the season after having to withdraw from the Keystone Classic this January due to health and safety protocols.

PROMOTIONS
- Stick City: After the conclusion of the university's shelter-in-place protocols, we are excited to welcome students back to the Fitz! The first 250 students will receive a free Stick City t-shirt!
- Autism Advocacy: The Panthers continue their efforts to advocate for both children and adults on the autistic spectrum with this Sunday's theme. Be sure to check out Pitt's Autistic Student Union table inside the Fitz. Ear plugs are available upon request.
- Trading Cards: Sunday's meet will feature the sophomore trading cards which will be available after the meet at the marketing table. Collect them all!
LAST TIME OUT
- Freshman Sidney Washington earned the highest vault score for the Panthers so far this season, anchoring with a career-high 9.875 and earning second place overall and contributing to the team's highest team score on the event this season.
- Freshman Hallie Copperwheat finished third in the all-around competition (39.200), earning two career-high scores on floor (9.800) and vault (9.825)
- The Panthers' score of 194.300 is the team's second highest score of the season.
SCOUTING THE WOLFPACK
- The NC State Wolfpack (6-1, 1-1 EAGL) recorded a 195.250 in their last meet, placing second in a quad meet against UNH, GW, and William and Mary.
- The team is coming off a season-high 49.275 on floor with all six competitors scoring a 9.800 or higher. NC State currently leads the EAGL on floor.
- Friday's meet will be the 54th meeting between NC State and Pitt. The series is currently tied at 7-7 when competing in the Fitzgerald Field House.
SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS
- Despite posting their season-best road score of 195.425, the Mountaineers (2-3, 0-2 EAGL) fell to Iowa State in a dual meet last Friday. West Virginia put up their first vault score of 49.0+, earning a 49.125.
- West Virginia maintained their Top 10 status on floor for the third consecutive week. This week they rank No. 8 with a 49.308 season average.
- Sunday will be the 87th meeting between the Mountaineers and Pitt. West Virginia currently holds an 11-28-1 lead over the Panthers when competing at the Fitz. This is the first of three meetings between the two teams during the 2022 season.
SCOUTING THE SEAWOLVES
- After funding cuts and the threat of the program's elimination, the University of Alaska - Anchorage was reinstated for the 2022 season.
- The Seawolves (0-3, 0-3 MPSF) have competed only against fellow MPSF conference schools, facing Air Force Academy twice and UC Davis. The team's strongest event is bars, currently ranking fourth in the MPSF with an average team score of 47.938.
- Sunday's quad meet will be the inaugural meeting between Alaska - Anchorage and Pitt.
UP NEXT
- Pitt will travel to Morgantown, W. Va. for the team's second meeting with the Mountaineers of the season. The two teams will be joined by Texas Woman's University for a tri-meet at the WVU Coliseum Friday, Feb. 11 at 7 p.m.
