Panthers Shatter Beam Record at Texas Woman’s University

DENTON, Texas—The University of Pittsburgh gymnastics team (2-1, 1-0 EAGL) shattered the beam school record en route to a 195.575-192.925 win against Texas Woman's University Saturday night at Kitty Magee Arena.
The freshman duo of Hallie Copperwheat and Sidney Washington had standout performances – earning three individual titles on the night. Copperwheat recorded career-high scores on beam (9.875) and bars (9.850), while Washington concluded with a 39.250 – the highest all-around score so far this season for the Panthers.
Tonight's beam score of 49.200 surpasses the previous record of 49.125, set Jan. 20, 2018 in a home dual meet against EAGL opponent, University of New Hampshire.
BARS
Copperwheat anchored the event, tallying the highest score of the meet with a 9.850. Washington scored an impressive 9.800, followed by freshman Jordyn Ewing who recorded a career-high 9.775. The Panthers scored a 48.775 to give them the early lead over the Pioneers.
VAULT
Three Panthers scored a 9.750 to lead Pitt during the second rotation – Olivia Miller, Katie Chamberlain, and Washington. Pitt continued their lead, 97.325-96.275 over Texas Woman's into the third event.
FLOOR
During the third rotation, Erin Hutchison earned a career-high 9.850 for her routine, as well as Washington – her second consecutive 9.850 on floor. Miller led off the event for the Panthers, setting the tone with a 9.800. Pitt's team score of 49.050 widened the gap, giving the team a three-point lead heading into the final event,146.375-143.850.
BEAM
The Panthers' momentum throughout the night reached its peak in the fourth rotation at beam. All six Panthers earned a 9.700 or higher, combining to earn the highest team score in program history – 49.200. Copperwheat led with a 9.875, followed by Kiley Robatin and Washington who both earned 9.850.
