No. 20 Pitt Wins 3-0 at Saint Joseph’s
9/2/2021 10:30:00 PM | Women's Soccer
PHILADELPHIA — No. 20 Pitt women's soccer's (5-0-0) shut out Saint Joseph's (0-4-1) 3-0 Thursday night at Sweeney Field. The Panthers recorded their fourth shutout of the season, all by 3+ goals.
"I felt the first half we didn't come out with the intensity I expected," said Pitt head coach Randy Waldrum. "We just weren't as sharp as we needed to be. We talked about it at the half and put a much better second half together. I though Mackenzie Evers and Leah Pais came on and gave us some good minutes as did Emily Harrigan. Great seeing West and Mertz continue to get goals and Sarah Sinnott scored a great third goal for us. Overall pleased with the way we handled the game on the road."
Amanda West broke open a scoreless game in the 64th minute to extend her goal-scoring streak to five games. Leah Pais dribbled backwards in the box and then put a pass that deflected pass the last line of defenders to a wide open net West, who chipped a shot into the right side of the net from two yards out in front of the goalkeeper.
Pitt returns home for an undefeated top-20 showdown against No. 6 TCU (5-0-0) Sunday at 11 a.m.

Landy Mertz added an insurance goal in the 74th minute on her second goal of the season, tucking in a shot from just inside the top of the box into the top left of the net. After Athalie Palomo forced a turnover in the Panthers' end, Emily Harrigan pushed it ahead to Pais, who found the streaking Mertz..@amanda_westt has still scored in every game this season! This might have been her easiest one ??

The final goal came from Sarah Sinnott in the 87th minute, her first of the season. Picking up her first collegiate point, Ashley Moon picked up a loose ball and found Sinnott just inside the right side of the box, where she tucked a shot into the top left corner of the net..@landy_mertz goal No. 2?? of the season is a beauty!
