PITTSBURGH—University of Pittsburgh seniors Cal Adomitis and Deslin Alexandre were on Thursday named to the 2021 watch list for the Wuerffel Trophy, annually presented to the community service champion of college football.
Adomitis (Pittsburgh, Pa./Pittsburgh Central Catholic) returns for an extra senior season at Pitt as one of the top long snappers – and most experienced players – in all of college football. The Pittsburgh native has already played in 50 games for his hometown team. But his contributions off the field have been arguably even more impactful during his previous four years with the Pitt football program.
An All-ACC Academic Team honoree with a bachelor's degree in economics who is now pursing postgraduate studies in Pitt's Katz Graduate School of Business, Adomitis' community service endeavors include volunteering at youth football camps, Dollar Energy Fund's "Cool Down for Warmth" event to raise utility money for western Pennsylvania families in need, supporting Make-A-Wish Foundation initiatives, among many other projects. He also served as Pitt's president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and is an active leader on campus.
Alexandre (Pompano Beach, Fla./Deerfield Beach) has consistently been one of Pitt's team leaders in community service hours among all male student-athletes during his time at the University. Recently, he spent time on his birthday delivering and serving food at a Pittsburgh area homeless shelter.
Also an All-ACC Academic Team selection, Alexandre earned a bachelor's degree in communication and is now enrolled in Pitt's Katz Graduate School of Business. The veteran defensive end, who has tallied 18 tackles for loss and 8.5 sacks in 37 games played for the Panthers, was also named to the 2021 watch list for the Lott IMPACT Trophy, which recognizes character and defensive performance.
