The Panthers responded in their first trip to the plate. Sky Duff led off with a double to right field and came home on a fielding error by the third baseman from a hard hit grounder by Kyle Hess. With two outs, David Yanni knocked in Hess with a single up the middle.
NC State tied it up in the next inning on an RBI-groundout double play and got a run in the next inning with a two-out one-run single.
Pitt tied it up again in the bottom of the third inning. Duff led off again with a double to left center, advanced to third base on a Nico Popa groundout to the pitcher and came home on a Hess RBI-groundout.
The Wolfpack produced a run for the fourth-straight inning with a leadoff homer to left center.
The Panthers took back the lead in the bottom of the inning. After Bryce Hulett drew a one-out walk, Jackson Phinney hit his first career homer to left center with two outs.
