Pitt Combines for 25 Hits in DH Sweep of Boston College

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The University of Pittsburgh softball team earned two victories over ACC opponent Boston College Friday afternoon, defeating the Eagles 7-4 in game one and 9-0 in five innings in game two at Harrington Athletic Village.
NEWS & NOTES
Taylor led off the game with a single to shortstop for Pitt (16-25, 11-20 ACC) then stole second and advanced to third on a passed ball. Taylor scored after sophomore Kayla Lane reached on an error and the Panthers led 1-0 early.
Boston College (8-27, 4-19 ACC) responded with a big bottom half of the first, recording six hits and four runs to take a 4-1 advantage. The Panthers got one run back (4-2) in the top of the second, as senior LoLo Sanchez singled to left field, scoring graduate student Walker Barbee.
Barbee tied the game up at 4-4 for Pitt, doubling to left centerfield in the top of the fourth. The double was her first of the year.
Freshman Cami Compson brought in Taylor with a groundout to the pitcher and senior Hunter Levesque scored Lane with a single to right in the top of the sixth, putting Pitt up 6-4. Taylor continued to have a productive day at the plate with a triple to left center in the next inning, scoring Sanchez and adding an insurance run (7-4) for the Panthers.
Levesque finished 2-for-4 with an RBI while Barbee went 2-for-4 with two RBI. Sophomore pitcher Makenzie Stiles earned the win (3-3), throwing 4.2 innings of four hit ball with one strikeout.
GAME TWO
Pitt jumped out to an early 2-0 lead as Seamans hit her 11th home run of the season in the top of the first. An inning later, Sanchez tripled to left center, bringing in senior Chandler Walter and Taylor reached on a fielding error, scoring Sanchez to make it a 4-0 game.
Seamans opened up the top of the third with a solo shot to left center (5-0), her second homerun of the game and 12th of the season. Seamans trails McKayla Taylor (14) by two homeruns for fifth in a single season at Pitt. Giorgiana Zeremenko holds the single-season school record with 17 set back in 2016.
Barbee increased the Panther lead to 6-0 after an RBI double to center sent home senior Morgan Batesole. Levesque registered a double of her own in the top of the fourth, bringing in Taylor for a 7-0 game. The Panthers scored their eighth and ninth runs in the top of the fifth, courtesy of a two out Lane double to right center.
The Panthers hit four doubles, two triples and two home runs for the game and every starter tallied at least one hit.
Lane went 1-for-2 with two RBI and a walk. Redshirt senior pitcher Brittany Knight threw a complete-game, five inning shutout for her fifth victory of the season and fourth victory in her last six appearances. She allowed only three hits and struck out one.
Pitt is back in action tomorrow for another double-header with the Eagles. Game one of the day starts at 1 p.m., with game two to follow 40 minutes after game one. The series was originally scheduled to conclude Sunday, but forecasted rain in the Boston area moved the series to two double-headers.

NEWS & NOTES
- Pitt combined for 25 hits, 16 runs and 10 extra base hits in both games. The team recorded a .391 batting average and a .656 slugging percentage between the two games.
- The Panthers totaled 13 hits in game one, the most in a game this season. It was the 11th game this season Pitt registered double-digit hits and third-straight. Pitt made it four-straight with 12 hits in game two.
- Sophomore EC Taylor went a combined 5-for-9 with four runs, a triple and two stolen bases today. Her second stolen base was her 27th of the year and she is now tied with Ashley Amistade (2011) for second in a single season.
- Junior Sarah Seamans went 2-for-3 with two home runs and three RBI in game two. It was her first multi-homer game of her career. Seamans won ACC Player of the Week last week.
