Pitt Earns Sweep of North Carolina with 11-7 Win Sunday

NEWS & NOTES
- Sophomore EC Taylor went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate, registering three runs and an RBI. Taylor finished the weekend 10-for-14 with seven runs and four RBI.
- Junior Sarah Seamans hit her third homer of the series, finishing the day 2-for-4 with two RBI. Seamans finished the series with a 1.214 slugging percentage, eight hits and eight RBI.
- The Panthers hit eight home runs for the series, including three today. As a team, Pitt tallied a .607 slugging percentage and .355 batting average for the weekend.
The Tar Heels led by as many as four runs, as they scored two in the top of the fifth and three in the top of the sixth to lead 6-2. The Panthers responded with a nine run bottom of the sixth, the most runs in a single inning this season.
Freshman Cami Compson hit her second home run of the series with a three-run shot to left, making it a one run 6-5 game. Two batters later, senior Hunter Levesque gave Pitt the lead (7-6) with a two-run home run to right center field, her second of the series. With the bases loaded, Taylor drove a single up the middle for a RBI, scoring junior Hannah Bach (8-6). Sophomore Kayla Lane cleared the bases with the next at bat, hitting a double down the left field line. The Panthers led 11-6 after the bottom of the sixth inning and totaled eight hits and 14 at bats in the half inning.
The Tar Heels scored one run in the top of the seventh, but a line out to center ended the game as Pitt won 11-7.
Lane and Compson each totaled three RBI and seven different Panthers tallied hits in the win. Redshirt senior Brittany Knight earned her fourth win of the series, pitching 2.2 innings with one earned run.
Pitt next travels to Boston College for four games starting Friday, April 23 at 4 p.m. All games against the Eagles will be live on the ACCNX.
