Panthers Drop Two to NC State

RALEIGH, N.C. – The University of Pittsburgh softball team fell to NC State twice Saturday afternoon in a double-header at Dail Softball Stadium.
Pitt dropped game one, 7-3, and fell 9-1 in six innings in game two.
GAME ONE
NC State (20-11, 13-11 ACC) opened up the scoring with five runs in the bottom of the first. Senior Hunter Levesque scored Pitt's (10-24, 5-19 ACC) first run of the day with a solo home run to center field in the top of the second. Senior Morgan Batesole hit a solo homer of her own in the top of the third, cutting the Wolfpack lead, 5-2.
NC State hit a pair of solo home runs in the bottom of the fourth and led, 7-2, after four. Freshman Cami Compson hit the third solo home run of the day for the Panthers in the top of the sixth, making it a four run game (7-3). Pitt threatened later in the inning with runners on second and third and two outs, but couldn't get them across.
Compson finished the game 2-for-3 with a double and a home run, while Batesole went 1-for-2 with a run and RBI.
GAME TWO
The Panthers jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, as Levesque singled to left and brought in sophomore Kayla Lane. Pitt loaded the bases in the top of the third, but a groundout to third base ended the threat.
Through four innings, junior starting pitcher Abby Edwards held the Wolfpack to two hits and tallied one strikeout. NC State took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the fifth, as Angie Rizzi hit a three-run homer to right center field.
Rain in the area forced a stoppage in play for 13 minutes in the top of the sixth. In the bottom of the sixth, the Wolfpack scored six runs as Pitt fell 9-1 in six innings.
Levesque finished 1-for-2 with a RBI, while junior Sarah Seamans went 1-for-1 with two walks.
Pitt concludes the four game series with NC State tomorrow at 5 p.m. Live action can be found on the ACC Network.
