The Hurricanes cut their deficit to one with a two-out solo homer to left center in the sixth inning.
Pitt pushed its lead back to two in the bottom of the inning. Anderson drew a one-out walk, stole second and was knocked in on a two-out double to left center from Popa.
Two Pitt relief pitchers got out of jams to finish out the game. In the eighth inning and one out, Jordan McCrum produced a groundball double play. The following inning Dylan Lester entered with no outs and the bases loaded again. A heads up throw by the third baseman Duff to second baseman Yanni following a fly out to left fielder Washington, Jr. got another double play. Lester then struck out the next batter looking for his first save as a Panther.
