
No. 18 Pitt Sweeps Clemson for 11th Consecutive Win

CLEMSON, S.C. – Junior Jordan Lockwood earned her Division I career high in kills with 11 in a 3-0 sweep for No. 18 Pitt volleyball (15-4, 13-4 ACC) at Clemson (11-10, 5-9 ACC) Thursday night at Jervey Gym.
The Panthers extended their ACC-leading win streak to 11 matches with the sweep by scores of 25-18, 25-17, 25-17.
Lockwood, who was named the 2019 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Two-Year College National Player of the Year while at Navarro College, played at Houston for her freshman season in 2018. The Friendswood, Texas, native bested her career mark of 10 kills with the Cougars as she recorded 11 Thursday night against Clemson.
Senior co-captain Kayla Lund followed Lockwood with nine kills while leading Pitt with eight digs. Junior middle blocker Sabrina Starks contributed eight kills on 10 attempts with just one error for a .700 hitting percentage against the Tigers. She added a team-best four blocks for Pitt.
Sophomore Lexis Akeo and redshirt senior Kylee Levers split setting duties and contributed 18 and 16 assists, respectively.
Pitt topped Clemson in kills (44-29), assists (39-28), service aces (9-0), and digs (34-33) while out-hitting the Tigers (.264-.161). Clemson had more blocks (9.0-7.0).
Set One: No. 18 Pitt 25, Clemson 18
Clemson led by as many as three, up 9-6, but a 9-2 run gave Pitt control of the set, gaining a 19-14 lead. A 3-0 Pitt run put the Panthers ahead, 23-16, and then they closed out the frame by a score of 25-18. Lockwood led Pitt with four kills in the stanza.
Set Two: No. 18 Pitt 25, Clemson 17
An early 5-0 run pushed Pitt ahead, 10-4, and the Panthers never surrendered the lead. However, a 4-0 Clemson run cut Pitt's lead to 17-14, but the Panthers responded with a 6-0 run to go up, 23-14. Pitt gained a 2-0 lead in the match following a 25-17 win in the second set. The Panthers limited the Tigers to a negative hitting percentage in the stanza, at -.069.
Set Three: No. 18 Pitt 25, Clemson 17
Pitt gained an early lead with a 5-0 run, but the Tigers cut the margin to one after a 4-0 surge (8-7). The Panthers secured momentum with a 7-1 run to extend its lead to 17-10. Pitt shut the door on the match by winning the final three points with a 25-17 victory.
