No. 18 Pitt Volleyball Completes Perfect Spring Season at 12-0

CLEMSON, S.C. – The No. 18 Pitt volleyball team (16-4, 14-4 ACC) cleaned up regular season competition with a sweep against Virginia Tech (6-10, 5-10 ACC) to complete a perfect spring season at 12-0 Friday night at Jervey Gym.
It was Pitt's second consecutive sweep, with the Panthers winning by scores of 25-11, 25-18, 25-21.
Senior co-captain Chinaza Ndee led the Panthers with 14 kills on .435 hitting on the right side. Her co-captain, outside hitter Kayla Lund, had a near double-double with nine kills and a match-high 12 digs. Sophomore middle blocker Chiamaka Nwokolo contributed nine kills on .500 hitting and added three blocks.
Setters Lexis Akeo and Kylee Levers each had 19 assists. Junior middle blocker Sabrina Starks led the Panthers with a match-high five blocks.
The Panthers dominated the Hokies in nearly every statistic, including kills (48-24), assists (43-24), digs (49-30) and hitting percentage (.323-.062). The Hokies had more service aces (3-2) and blocks (10.0-9.5)
Set One: No. 18 Pitt 25, Virginia Tech 11
Following a slow start, Pitt picked up some ground using an 11-2 run to go ahead, 16-7. The Panthers kept pushing, gaining five unanswered points for a 22-9 advantage. Pitt cruised to a 25-11 win in the set to go up, 1-0. Lund, Ndee and Nwokolo each had four kills in the stanza.
Set Two: No. 18 Pitt 25, Virginia Tech 18
Pitt didn't waste any time, going on a 4-0 run to start the frame. The Panthers extended their lead to 19-11 following a 6-2 surge and were able to finish the frame with a seven-point margin (25-18), to go up 2-0 in the match. Ndee had 10 kills through two sets as Pitt hit .377 as a team.
Set Three: No. 18 Pitt 25, Virginia Tech 21
The third set was the closest of the three, despite Pitt gaining an early 12-6 lead. The Hokies cut it close near the end of the match, using a 7-2 run to come within two points of the Panthers (23-21). Two kills from Ndee sealed the deal with the Panthers sweeping Virginia Tech, 3-0.
