Panthers to Take on Tigers, Virginia Tech
PITTSBURGH – The No. 18 Pitt volleyball team (14-4, 12-4 ACC) will complete its 2020-21 regular season with two matches in Clemson, S.C., Thursday and Friday at Jervey Gym. The Panthers will take on host Clemson (11-9, 5-8 ACC) Thursday at 5 p.m. ET, before its final match against Virginia Tech (6-9, 5-9 ACC) Friday at 5 p.m. ET.

LAST TIME OUT
- Pitt cruised to a sweep of North Carolina, winning its 10th consecutive match of the spring season Sunday afternoon at Fitzgerald Field House. The Panthers extended their ACC-leading win streak with the sweep by scores of 25-15, 25-11, 25-13. Earlier in the week, Pitt swept rival West Virginia in the Backyard Brawl revival (March 24) before defeating No. 25 Florida State, 3-1, at Fitzgerald Field House (March 26).
- Senior captains Kayla Lund and Chinaza Ndee led the way for the Panthers with 10 and nine kills, respectively, against the Tar Heels. Redshirt freshman outside hitter Valeria Vazquez Gomez followed with seven kills, while sophomore middle blocker Chiamaka Nwokolo contributed six on .750 hitting.
PITT IN THE POLL
- Following three home wins, Pitt moved up one spot to No. 18 in the most recent national poll by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA).
- The Panthers have been ranked in 52 consecutive AVCA polls, dating back to the 2018 Preseason Poll.
NDEE NAMED ACC CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK
- Senior co-captain Chinaza Ndee was named the ACC Volleyball Co-Player of the Week, as announced by the conference Tuesday. The honor is the third of Ndee's career, earning the accolades for the first time since Oct. 7, 2019. She is the second Panther to earn the recognition during the 2020-21 season, alongside co-captain Kayla Lund, (March 24).
- Ndee helped the No. 18 Panthers extend their league-leading win streak to 10 matches, including a 3-1 win over No. 25 Florida State (March 26) and sweeps of rival West Virginia (March 24) and North Carolina (March 28). She led ed the Panthers with 3.50 kills per set, totaling 35 kills over 10 sets played in three matches. The Houston, Texas, native hit .394 for the week while adding 0.80 blocks per frame.
RANKING THE PANTHERS
- Through matches played on March 28, Pitt leads the ACC assists per set (12.89). The Panthers are second in the league in blocks per set (2.52), kills per set (13.97) and opponent hitting percentage (.149).
- Junior middle blocker Sabrina Starks leads the ACC with 83 total blocks in 2020-21 and is ranked fourth with 1.26 blocks per set.
- Senior outside hitter Kayla Lund is third in the league total kills (257) and total points (298.0).
MILESTONE WATCH
- Two Panthers are nearing career milestone marks for certain statistics, counting matches played through March 28.
- Outside hitter Kayla Lund has 973 digs for her career. With her 1,000th dig she is set to become the seventh player in program history to record 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs.
- Right side hitter Chinaza Ndee is nearing her 1,000th kill, with 930 so far for her career. She would become Pitt's 18th member of the 1,000 Kill Club. She'd be the second active Panther in the club, alongside Lund.
SCOUTING CLEMSON
- Clemson (11-9, 5-8 ACC) is looking to bounce back after a 3-1 loss to Notre Dame Friday on the road.
- Freshman utility player Camryn Hannah leads the Tigers with 3.97 kills per set and tops the ACC with 656 total attacks. Freshman outside hitter Cate Long is the league leader with 36 service aces, and setter McKenna Slavic paces the ACC with 766 total assists.
- Clemson tops the ACC with 896 total assists, 1,010 total kills and 107 total service aces.
- Pitt is 8-1 all-time against Clemson. The Panthers dropped the first meeting in 1997, 3-1, but have been victorious in every meeting since then. Pitt is 4-0 all-time when playing on the road at Clemson.
SCOUTING VIRGINIA TECH
- Virginia Tech (6-9, 5-9 ACC) has dropped it last two contests against Miami (3-1) and Boston College (3-0).
- Graduate student Kaity Smith leads the Hokies with 3.23 kills per set as an outside hitter.
- Pitt is 11-6 all-time against Virginia Tech, winning the last six meetings in the series. The Panthers have never competed against the Hokies at a neutral site.
- The Panthers' last loss against Virginia Tech came Nov. 25, 2015, in Pittsburgh (3-2).
- Pitt has not dropped a set against the Hokies since a 3-1 win on Sept. 28, 2016, winning the last 17 consecutive frames against Virginia Tech.
