
No. 19 Pitt Cruises to 10th Consecutive Win, Sweeping Tar Heels

Panthers Extend ACC-Leading Win Streak
PITTSBURGH – The No. 19 Pitt volleyball team (14-4, 12-4 ACC) cruised to a sweep of North Carolina (10-6, 9-5 ACC), winning its 10th consecutive match of the spring season Sunday afternoon at Fitzgerald Field House.
Pitt extended its ACC-leading win streak with the sweep by scores of 25-15, 25-11, 25-13.
Senior captains Kayla Lund and Chinaza Ndee led the way for the Panthers with 10 and nine kills, respectively. Redshirt freshman outside hitter Valeria Vazquez Gomez followed with seven kills, while sophomore middle blocker Chiamaka Nwokolo contributed six on .750 hitting.
Setters Kylee Levers and Lexis Akeo had 20 and 11 assists, respectively. Lund had a match-high eight digs, in addition to three blocks, tied with Nwokolo.
As a team, Pitt out-hit the Tar Heels by a wide margin (.375-.012). The Panthers had the advantage across all stats, including kills (42-23), assists (35-21), service aces (4-1), digs (33-20) and blocks (7.0-4.0).
Set One: No. 19 Pitt 25, North Carolina 15
Pitt used a hot 6-0 start to gain an early advantage over the Tar Heels. The Panthers secured momentum of the set with a 10-1 run to earn a 20-9 lead. Pitt cruised to a 25-15 win, hitting .379 and holding North Carolina to .000 success on offense. Ndee led Pitt with eight kills in the frame.
Set Two: No. 19 Pitt 25, North Carolina 11
Another hot start to the set gave Pitt an early 6-1 lead. The Panthers pushed their lead to 11-3 following a 5-1 surge. Pitt closed the frame by outscoring North Carolina 6-1 to earn another double-figure victory, 25-11, to go up 2-0 in the match. The Panthers recorded a scorching hitting percentage of .556 while limiting the Tar Heels to .080 from the floor.
Set Three: No. 19 Pitt 25, North Carolina 13
Pitt cruised to a sweep, with a 10-2 surge in the third set to swing momentum in the Panthers' favor. The Panthers never let up, securing the win by a wide margin with a final third set score of 25-13.
UP NEXT
No. 19 Pitt will compete the regular season by traveling to Clemson, S.C., for two matches. The Panthers will take on the host Tigers Thursday at 5 p.m. ET before competing against Virginia Tech Friday at 5 p.m. ET.
