No. 14 Pitt Drops Series Finale 8-4 to No. 22 Virginia Tech

PITTSBURGH – No. 14 Pitt baseball (12-8, 8-7) fell 8-4 to No. 22 Virginia Tech (13-8, 9-6) Sunday afternoon at Charles L. Cost Field. The Hokies pulled away with a pair of unanswered runs in each of the last two innings.
The Panthers had rallied to tie the game up with three runs in the seventh inning. Brock Franks led off with a single to first base, and Nico Popa was hit by a pitch. Both advanced on a wild pitch and scored on a single to right center by Jordan Anderson. With one out, Anderson stole second base, went to third on a Ron Washington, Jr. single to centerfield and came home on an RBI-groundout by Kyle Hess.
The teams exchanged runs in the first inning. After Virginia Tech got on the board first with an RBI-single, Pitt evened it up with its own RBI-single. Anderson drew a one-out walk. After David Yanni was hit by a pitch, Washington, Jr. knocked in Anderson.
Pitt resumes play with another home series against a ranked ACC team, No. 12 Notre Dame, beginning Thursday at 3 p.m.

- The game started two hours late at 3:02 p.m. due to a weather delay.
- Stephen Hansen started on the mound and went 5.1 innings with four runs, six hits and one walk allowed with five strikeouts.
- Washington, Jr. tied for a game-high three hits.
- Anderson and Bryce Hulett both reached base three times as well, as Anderson had a hit and two walks while Hulett went 2-3 with a walk.
- Franks was the only other Panther with multiple hits with two singles.
