No. 17 Pitt Drops Series-Opener 4-1 to No. 12 Notre Dame

PITTSBURGH – No. 17 Pitt baseball (12-9, 8-8) dropped the series opener 4-1 to No. 12 Notre Dame (12-4, 11-4) Saturday afternoon at Charles L. Cost Field. The Irish broke open a scoreless game with a pair of solo homers in the fourth inning.
The Panthers lone run came in the ninth inning. Nico Popa and Kyle Hess hit consecutive singles through the left side to begin the frame. After a double play, Popa scored on a wild pitch.
Pitt was inches away from scoring in its first trip to the plate, as Hess was tagged out at home on a double to right field by Ron Washington, Jr.
Pitt and Notre Dame play game two Sunday at 3 p.m.
