Lund Leads Pitt with 13 Kills

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Senior outside hitter Kayla Lund led the No. 22 Pitt volleyball team (9-4, 8-4 ACC) to its third consecutive sweep, this time against NC State (5-7, 4-7 ACC) Saturday at LJVM Coliseum.

The Panthers pummeled the Wolfpack by scores of 25-6, 25-15, 25-12.

Lund hit a hot .632 in the three-set match, recording 13 kills on 19 attempts with just one error. She added seven digs and two service aces. Classmate Chinaza Ndee had 11 kills from the right side and had seven digs, four blocks and three aces.

Redshirt freshman outside hitter Valeria Vazquez Gomez contributed seven kills, and junior middle blocker Sabrina Starks hit .600 on the day with six kills on 10 attempts and no errors.

Sophomore setter Lexis Akeo recorded 34 assists for Pitt, while sophomore libero Ashley Browske led the way with nine digs.

Pitt had major advantages in kills (47-18), assists (40-18), service aces (7-3), digs (37-26) and blocks (7.0-2.0). The Panthers held the Wolfpack to .000 success hitting, while posting a season-best hitting percentage of their own (.471).

Set One: No. 22 Pitt 25, NC State 6

Pitt held NC State to .036 hitting while the Panthers recorded a scorching clip of .548. Ndee killed 6-of-10 attempts in the stanza with zero errors and added two service aces.

Set Two: No. 22 Pitt 25, NC State 15

A 13-0 Pitt run swung the momentum fully in the Panthers' favor, earning a 15-4 lead. Pitt ended the second frame with another double-figure victory to go up, 2-0. Lund contributed five kills in the set on .714 hitting.

Set Three: No. 22 Pitt 25, NC State 12

Pitt made light work of NC State again in the third set, opening the frame with an 8-1 run. Redshirt freshman middle blocker Anastasia Russ earned her way into the Pitt rotation and recorded a kill. The Panthers limited the Wolfpack to a negative hitting percentage to end the match with their third consecutive sweep.

UP NEXT
Pitt will stay on the road to visit Durham, N.C., for a pair of matches. The Panthers will face Miami Saturday, March 20, before taking on host Duke Sunday, March 21, at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
