ATLANTA – Pitt baseball (8-4, 5-3) fell 5-3 at No. 7 Georgia Tech (9-4, 6-2) Saturday night at Russ Chandler Stadium.

The Panthers had the tying run at second base in the last inning. Trailing 5-2, Ron Washington, Jr. led off with a double to right center. After a wild pitch and a walk by David Yanni put runners on the corners, Bryce Hulett brought home Washington, Jr. with an RBI-single through the left side. Pinch-hitter Matt Tarabek was hit by a pitch with two outs, but a strikeout ended the game.

The Panthers scored in their first trip to the plate. Kyle Hess hit the Panthers' first triple of the season to left center with one out and came home standing on a sac fly to centerfield by Washington, Jr.

Pitt doubled its lead in third inning. Hess drew a one-out walk and advanced to second on a balk. Yanni knocked in Hess with a double down the right field line.

Georgia Tech got on the board with an RBI-infield single in the fourth inning and took the lead on a pair of two-out RBI-hits in the seventh inning. The Yellow Jackets tacked on two more runs in the next inning on an RBI-triple followed by a sac fly.

The rubber match is Sunday at 1 p.m. for another ACC Network broadcast.

NOTES

Matt Gilbertson started and went 6.2 innings with nine strikeouts and three runs, 11 hits and one walk allowed.
Yanni went 2-3 as the only Panther with multiple hits.
