Panthers Head To Blacksburg For Doc Hale Elite Meet This Weekend

PITTSBURGH – The Pitt track and field team will compete in their second indoor meet of the season this weekend as they head to Blacksburg, Va. for the Doc Hale Elite Meet hosted by Virginia Tech. The two-day meet will take place at the Rector Field House on Friday and Saturday.

- Team competing in the Doc Hale Elite Meet on Friday and Saturday are Boston College, Duke, Iowa State, Louisville, North Carolina, Syracuse, Tennessee, Virginia, Virginia Tech
- The Panthers will be competing against a number of ranked opponents this weekend including Tennessee (Men 8th, Women 20th), Iowa State (Men 16th), Duke (Women 23rd), Syracuse (Men 25th).
- The Panthers opened up their 2020-21 indoor campaign last week with the Notre Dame Invitational as both the men and women took home third place in the three-team field.
- Overall, Pitt had four individuals and four relays who claimed victory in the one-day meet. The individual winners for the Panthers were Kollin Smith (60m hurdles), Eddita Pessima (60m hurdles), Nikki Scherer (400m) and Ade Jones-Roundtree (400m).
- On the men's side, the 4x400m relay squad of Jones-Roundtree, Matt Thompson, Raymond Oriakhi and Lonzell Feagin collected the win as did the DMR squad of Josh Higgins, Cobe Wiggins, Jack Balick and Evan Addison.
- The Panthers also posted two top-10 performances in the season-opening meet as sophomore Jack Miller collected second place in the 3000m run with the fourth fastest time in program history, 8:11.95. The men's DMR quartet of Higgins, Wiggins, Balick and Addison also posted the 10th best time in program history, finishing in 9:54.72.
- The Panthers will return to the track next weekend as they head down to Clemson, SC for the Tiger Paw Invite on Feb. 12-13.
