Diving, Baseball Student-Athletes Honored
PITTSBURGH – Amy Read of women's diving and Sky Duff of the baseball team were named the Office Depot/Supra Student-Athletes of the Week following impressive performances in their respective sports.
Read, a junior, joined the elite ranks of Pitt diving history over the weekend by joining Dominic Giordano and Meme Sharp as the only Pitt divers to qualify for multiple finals at the ACC Championships. A returning NWCA All-American and ACC finalist on platform, Read once again qualified for the conference final in the event before eventually placing sixth. Competing at the Greensboro Aquatic Center, Read once again led the Panthers' efforts by scoring 49 individual points for the team thanks to finishing in the top-15 of all three of her respective diving events. Read finished sixth on platform, 14th on 3-meter and 15th on 1-meter at ACCs to showcase her all-around diving ability.
Duff, Pitt's leadoff hitter, led the way at the plate for the season-opening series victory over Indiana State in the Snowbird Classic in Port Charlotte, Fla. In Saturday's 8-1 win, Duff had two doubles, two RBI, two walks and a run. He followed it up in Sunday's 10-1 victory with two more hits, an RBI and a walk.
