Cross Country Makes Final Push For NCAA Qualifiers Friday At Regionals

PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh cross country teams aim to produce some NCAA Championship qualifiers as they head to the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regionals Friday morning in Bethlehem, PA. at Lehigh University's Goodman Campus Cross Country Course. The women's 6K championship race will start things off at 12:00 p.m., followed by the men's 10K championship race at 1:00 p.m.

- A meet recap and results will be posted on PittsburghPanthers.com following the completion of the meet.
- The top four individuals will automatically qualify for the NCAA cross country Championships held in Tallahassee, FL on Saturday, November 20th. At-large individuals will also be selected after the conclusion of the regional meets.
- Team scoring is based on individuals' order of finish. The top seven finishers' scores count towards the team score.
- Set to compete for the Panthers on the women's side are Caroline Rusinski, Emily Brown, Emily Jobes, Sadie Carey-Tharp, Sarah Hurst, Olivia Zambrio, Winnie Incorvaia and Mary Borkoski.
- Competing for the men are Jack Miller, Evan Addison, Josh Higgins, Luke Henseler, Sam Otis, Ethan Maher, Tyler Rollins, Quintin Gatons and Trey Gannon.
- On the women's side there are a total of 30 teams participating in the regional while the men's field consists of 28 teams.
- Both the men's and the women's races will feature two squads ranked inside the top-30 in the nation.
- On the women's side, Georgetown (23) and West Virginia (28) are ranked while on the men's side, Princeton (18) and Georgetown (29) are ranked.
- The 2020 NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regionals were cancelled due to the Covid-19 Pandemic.
- The Panthers last competed in the regional meet in 2019 in Bethlehem at the Goodman Campus Cross Country course. The Pitt men were able to secure their highest finish at the regional meet since 2006 as they took home seventh place overall while the women took home 15th place in the 31 team field.
- Pitt had a pair of men earn All-Regional honors as Nick Wolk took home 15th place overall and Zach Lefever placed 23rd as both runners earn the regional accolade for the first time in their career.
- The women were led by Sam Shields who posted a 55th place finish while Devon Hoernlein finished in 72nd place and Ally Brunton took 87th place.
LAST TIME OUT – 2021 ACC CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS
- The Panthers competed in the ACC Championships in South Bend, IN. The Pitt men were able to take home 11th place while the women posted a 12th place finish in the tough field.
- The men's team posted a team score of 299, just seven points behind 10th place Louisville. They were led by Evan Addison who took home 52nd place overall while Jack Miller crossed the line in 57th place and Josh Higgins posted the 66th place finish.
- The women posted a team score of 373 as they improved on their finish from a season ago by two spots. Freshman Caroline Rusinski led the way for Pitt as she notched a 79th place finish. Sophomore Emily Brown took home 82nd place while Emily Jobes crossed the finish line in 85th place.
- Depending on their finish, the conclusion of the 2021 cross country season will take place Saturday, Nov. 20 in Tallahassee, FL as Florida State plays host to the 2021 NCAA Cross Country Championships.
