No. 12 Pitt Off to Best Start in Program History with 2-1 Overtime Win at The Citadel

CHARLESTON, S.C. – No. 12 Pitt women's soccer (5-0-0) is off to its best start in program history after a 2-1 overtime win over The Citadel (1-1-1) Thursday evening at WLI Field. Amanda West scored the golden goal in the 93rd minute off a penalty kick for the second-straight game.
Off a corner kick by Hailey Davidson, Emily Yaple was knocked over in the left side of the box to draw the penalty kick.
"We were very fortunate today as it was probably our worst performance this season," said Pitt head coach Randy Waldrum. "Credit to Citadel, who made it difficult for us. I just felt we were flat and uninspired until late in the second half. We started to play a bit better late in the second half and overtime. I did think Hannah Kynch came on and made a huge impact in the game. She was a bright spot for sure. On a more positive note, we found a way to respond after going behind and then get the win. So I do think we are growing in that regard."
Kate McKay tied the game up with her second goal of the season with less than eight minutes left in regulation. Hannah Knych sent a cross deep into the left side of the box, Anna Rico headed it over to McKay and McKay headed it into the net.
After the Panthers dominated possession and scoring chances in the second half, the Bulldogs recorded the game's first goal in the 71st minute. Zoey Conrad scored from a few yards outside box with a shot that just sneaked under the crossbar.
Pitt faces The Citadel again Sunday at 11 a.m.
