
Pitt Gymnastics Makes History with 196.500 at West Virginia

Panthers Record Multiple Records at Tri-Meet
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The Pitt gymnastics team (7-6, 2-3 EAGL) made a statement at West Virginia Sunday afternoon, recording the second-highest score in program history, 196.500, to win a tri-meet hosted by the Mountaineers at WVU Coliseum.
Pitt's 196.500 stands as the top road score in program history, previously a 196.100 in a quad meet at Texas Woman's University in 2018. The Panthers also tied the program record on vault, recording a score of 49.200.
The Panthers won the rubber match in the three-meet season series with West Virginia. The Mountaineers scored a 196.425 to place second. Rutgers came in third in the narrowly scored meet with a 195.300.
Two Panthers picked up individual titles: senior Alecia Petrikis had a career day on vault with a 9.900, and classmate Michaela Burton claimed bars (9.850) and beam (9.900). Burton's 9.900 on beam was her third score of 9.900 or better this season.
BARS
The Panthers had a strong start to the meet with a season-best 48.925 on bars, led by Burton who earned the individual title with a 9.850. Senior Rachel Dugan and junior Haley Brechwald each posted 9.775s for season-high scores.
BEAM
Burton continued to shine for the Panthers in the second rotation, earning her third score of 9.900 or better this season with a 9.900 on beam. Brechwald tied her season high with a 9.825 on the event. Pitt totaled 49.050 as a team to make its two-rotation score 97.975.
FLOOR
The Panthers kept their feet on the gas pedal in the third rotation, tying the seventh-best team floor score in program history with a 49.325. Sophomore Olivia Miller recorded the first 9.900 of her career and placed second in the event. Burton and junior Jordan Ceccarini followed with 9.875s, while senior Deven Herbine recorded a career-high 9.850.
VAULT
The Panthers swept the podium on vault, led by Petrikis' career-high 9.900. Freshman Ciara Ward followed with a career-best 9.875, and Herbine rounded out the trio with a 9.850. Pitt's 49.200 on the event tied the program record and closed out the meet on a strong note, securing the No. 2 score in program history at 196.500.
