Pitt Scores Above 196 for Third Consecutive Meet
TEMPE, Ariz. – The Pitt gymnastics team (7-7, 2-3 EAGL) shattered the vault school record en route to its third consecutive score of 196 or better, recording a 196.200 at Arizona State Sunday afternoon at Desert Financial Arena.
The Sun Devils edged out the Panthers for the team win, 196.825-196.200.
Just one meet after tying the previous vault school record (49.200) at West Virginia, the Panthers produced a 49.325 on the event.
Three senior Panthers earned individual wins in Tempe. Deven Herbine and Alecia Petrikis each recorded career-best scores of 9.925 on vault to tie for the victory. The scores also tie the No. 4 mark in program history.
Michaela Burton won beam for the second consecutive meet and for the sixth time this season. She earned a 9.900, marking her fourth score of 9.900 or better in 2020.
BARS
Pitt started strong, with the first three Panthers earning season or career-high scores. EAGL Rookie of the Week Ciara Ward tied a personal bet 9.825, while senior Rachel Dugan and junior Haley Brechwald each posted a 9.800 for season highs. Burton led the squad with a 9.850 as the Panthers earned a season-best team score of 48.975 on the event.
VAULT
Pitt skyrocketed to a school record on vault of 49.325, as Herbine and Petrikis tied the No. 4 score in program history, each recording a personal best 9.925 to tie for the win. Three more Panthers picked up season or career-best marks. Ward earned another career-best score, earning a 9.875. Junior Jordan Ceccarini and sophomore Olivia Miller both scored 9.800, with Ceccarini's being a career high and Miller's a season high.
FLOOR
Pitt's low score of the day came on floor at 48.850. Burton and Ward each score 9.850 to lead the Panthers, and Herbine followed with a 9.800.
BEAM
The Panthers finished strong, bouncing back from a weak third rotation. Burton won the event wit her fourth score of 9.900 or better this season. Herbine was runner-up with a career-best 9.875, and Miller tied her personal best score of 9.800 to place fifth. In total, Pitt recorded a team score of 49.050 to stay above 196 for the third consecutive meet (196.200).
