
Panthers Ready To Welcome Georgia Tech On Thursday Night

PITTSBURGH – The Pitt women's basketball team will look to get back on track on Thursday night as they play host to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets inside the Petersen Events Center at 7:00 pm.

- This meeting marks the eighth all-time between the two programs with Georgia Tech holding the slim 4-3 edge in the series.
- The Yellow Jackets downed Pitt last season in Atlanta by the score of 67-55.
- Georgia Tech holds the 2-1 lead in games played in Pittsburgh.
- The last win for the Panthers against Georgia Tech came on Jan. 14, 2018 as Pitt downed the Yellow Jackets 68-62 at the Pete.
- The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets enter Thursday night's game with a 14-8 overall record and an 5-6 ACC mark. The Yellow Jackets have lost five straight games including two in overtime.
- Georgia Tech is being led offensively by Jasmine Carson who is averaging 11.9 points and 3.1 rebounds while she has connected on a team-high 43 triples and is shooting 35.8% from behind the arc.
- Senior Francesca Pan is enjoying a strong season as she is averaging 11.5 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.3 steals across 34.2 minutes/game.
- Kierra Fletcher is averaging 10.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, a team-high 3.0 assists and a team-best 1.5 steals.
- As a team, the Yellow Jackets are averaging 62.2 ppg and allowing 51.0 ppg. They are shooting 40.2% from the floor while opponents are shooting 37.3% against them.
- Dayshanette Harris has handled the reins of the Pitt offense since her first day on campus and she is showing flashes of becoming a star for the Panthers.
- Last time out, Harris led the Panthers in scoring for the fourth straight game as she netted 17 points, seven rebounds, two assists and a steal across a career-high 36 minutes.
- Harris was named ACC Freshman of the Week for the first time in her Pitt career on Monday after a week that saw her average 15.0 points and 7.0 rebounds while leading Pitt to their first ACC win.
- She is the second Pitt freshman to earn the weekly ACC honor, marking the first time in program history Pitt had two different ACC Freshman of the Week honorees in the same season.
- The freshman has turned it up a notch over her last four games, three against nationally-ranked opponents, as she is averaging 33.8 minutes, 16.0 points, 5.8 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.8 steals while leading Pitt in scoring in all four.
- On the year, Harris is averaging 26.7 minutes, 10.5 points, 4.1 rebounds, 2.7 assists and a team-best 1.8 steals while starting 15 of 21 games at the point.
- Harris has notched two or more steals in nine of her last 11 games for the Panthers as she is becoming a threat on the defensive end of the court. She has a total of 13 multi-steal games so far this season.
- Earlier this season, Harris exploded for a career-high 26 points, six rebounds, four assists and four steals against Penn State, the most points scored by a Pitt freshman in a game since Kalista Walters posted 26 points in 2015-16.
- Harris is the first Pitt freshman since Kalista Walters in 2015-16 to post at least two 20+ scoring efforts in a season.
- Entering the 2019-20 campaign, the Panthers knew they were going to have to rely heavily on a handful of newcomers to make an impact and they have done a nice job so far this season.
- The six newcomers for the Pitt are averaging a combined 40.1 points and 27.5 rebounds per game so far this season.
- The newcomers are accounting for 68.3% of the Panthers scoring efforts this season and 66.1% of the rebounding efforts.
- The freshman duo of Dayshanette Harris and Amber Brown have combined to score 19.6 points per game, the second best freshman duo in the ACC behind Notre Dame's duo of Sam Brunelle and Anaya Peoples (23.7 ppg).
- The freshman duo of Brown and Rita Igbokwe are currently lead all ACC freshman duos in combined rebounds (15.4 rpg). The duo is currently ranks second in the NCAA for freshman duos combined rebounds/game, trailing only a duo from UC Santa Barbara (15.5 rpg).
- Brown and Igbokwe are one of two duos of freshman teammates in the NCAA averaging at least 7.0 rpg each (Oregon State).
- Pitt and Virginia are the only teams in the ACC with three freshman (Harris, Brown, Hayford) who are averaging at least 20.0 mpg on the season.
- Pitt will return to the road on Sunday afternoon as they travel to South Bend, IN to take on Notre Dame at 4:00 pm. Sunday's game will air live on the ACC Network.
