LAST TIME OUT (AT SYRACUSE, SEPT. 25-26)
- It wasn't the start to the season Pitt had planned on, as the Panthers fell on back-to-back nights to open the 2020 fall schedule at Syracuse Sept. 25-26 in Syracuse, N.Y.
- MATCH 1 (Sept. 25): Senior right side Chinaza Ndee contributed a match-high 21 kills as Pitt fell in a five-set thriller to open its 2020 fall season. After the Panthers took the opening set (25-21), the Orange claimed the next two frames (25-17, 26-24). Pitt forced a fifth set following a 27-25 win in the fourth but was unable to seal the deal, falling 15-9 in the fifth. It was Syracuse's first win against the Panthers since Nov. 22, 2015, at Fitzgerald Field House in Pittsburgh (3-1), snapping a five-match streak.
- MATCH 2 (Sept. 26): Senior outside hitter Kayla Lund had a match-high 19 kills, but it wasn't enough as Pitt fell in straight sets. Syracuse took the opening frame, 25-21. Pitt held the advantage for most of the second set and forced extra points but fell, 27-25. The Orange completed the sweep with a 25-19 win in the third. It was Pitt's first sweep since Aug. 26, 2017, against No. 9 Creighton.
SOMETHING'S GOTTA GIVE
- Both Pitt (0-2) and Boston College (0-2) will be looking for their first wins of the 2020 fall season when they enter Fitzgerald Field House Friday evening.
- Pitt's last 0-2 start to a season was in 2017, when they lost to No. 3 Washington and No. 9 Creighton to open non-conference play.
SCOUTING BOSTON COLLEGE
- Led by third-year head coach Jason Kennedy, Boston College was picked in a tie for eighth in the ACC Preseason Coaches Poll with 89 points. The Eagles were the lowest-ranked pick in the strongest five-team ACC volleyball pod, behind Syracuse (sixth), Notre Dame (fourth), Louisville (second) and Pitt (first).
- To open its 2020 fall campaign, the Eagles (0-2) were swept on back-to-back nights against Louisville at home in Chestnut Hill, Mass., Oct. 2-3.
- Senior outside hitter Clare Noughton led the Eagles on offense with an average of 3.29 kills per set in the series against the Cardinals.
UP NEXT
- Pitt will complete its fall 2020 road schedule with a trip to Notre Dame, Ind., to face the Fighting Irish Friday and Sunday, Oct. 16 and 18.
FAN ATTENDANCE
- The University of Pittsburgh was recently informed that fans will not be able to attend the Panthers' matches at Fitzgerald Field House until further notice. Pitt is working in concert with health officials and colleagues across the country regarding the possible accommodation of fans for home games.
- The league's leadership, and its medical advisory group, will continue to meet on a weekly basis to share information and discuss medical issues related to the ACC's return to play. Should any future adjustments be necessary, the ACC Board of Directors will do so at the appropriate time.
