PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh men's and women's cross country programs will officially open up their 2020 campaign on Friday afternoon as they head to Annapolis, Md. to take on Navy in a dual meet at the USNA Cross Country course.
The women will race first on Friday at 5:00 pm as they will look to open up the season with a strong performance at the challenging USNA Cross Country course that runs through the Naval Academy's golf course. The Pitt men will then hit the course at 5:45 pm as they also look to make a strong first impression for the shortened season.
The youthful women's team will be led this season by a pair of upperclassmen in Ally Brunton and Brenda Ayuk. Ayuk is coming off of an impressive showing in Pitt's intrasquad meet a couple weeks back as she claimed the victory in the 5K race while Brunton took second place. Friday will mark year two for a pair of promising sophomores as Corinne Firestone and Lily Robertson look to build on a strong freshman campaign. The Panthers will also be looking for strong performances from Emily Bonaventure, Megan Nagy, Mary Borkoski along with a pair of freshman in Caroline Beard and Talia Spillerman.
On the men's side, the Panthers have a very talented and experienced squad that will be looking to build off a great opening intrasquad meet. Leading the way for the Pitt men this year will be senior Zach Lefever who notched All-Region honors a season ago, along with graduate transfer Marc Migliozzi. Josh Higgins, Jack Miller, Evan Addison, Tyler Rollins and Jack Wisner will be looking to build off strong seasons in 2019 while the freshman trio of Luke Henseler, Sam Otis and Ethan Maher will look to make a name for themselves in the first meet of their collegiate careers.
The Panthers next meet will come on Friday, October 16 as they welcome West Virginia for the Panther Open at Youthtowne in Clinton, Pa.
