HOW IT HAPPENED
- Miami grabbed the lead with a quick goal in the third minute with Bayleigh Chaviers sending a long shot into the box that sailed over everyone that tucked into the left side of the post.
- Juliana Vazquez put a ball off a corner kick in the 26th minute.
- The Hurricanes got another quick goal to start the second half, this time five minutes in by Michelle Giamportone.
- Right after the goal, Amanda West almost tucked a shot into the top left corner post, but Miami's goalkeeper made a leaping one-handed save.
- Sydney Marasco got the Panthers on the board in the 54th minute. West headed a ball down from an Anna Rico cross, and Marasco tapped in the loose ball near the goal line.
- Pitt tied the game up nine minutes later. A Miami defender deflected a cross by Rico into the right side of the net.
- Miami took back the lead in the 71st minute, capitalizing on a loose ball in the box sent from the midfield into the strong wind at the stadium.
- The Panthers tied it up again in the 86th minute. West put a cross into the box from the left corner, Anna Bout slid in to tap it over to Marasco who hustled over to touch the ball in for her second goal of the night.
- Rico had Pitt's only shot on goal in overtime in the 98th minute.
- Pitt picked up its second point in the ACC standings.
- The Panthers had the edge in shots (16-13) and a sizable advantage in corner kicks (8-3).
- Amaia Pena started and made one save. Katherine Robinson entered at the beginning of the second half and had two saves.
- Rico had a game-high six shots with two on goal. West registered three shots, and Dixon Veltri had two.
QUOTABLE
- Head coach Randy Waldrum: "I thought the team showed great character in the way they fought back after going down two goals. Then to do it again after tying up the game late was a great effort. The disappointment is we continue to make simple mistakes which has forced us to play from behind in many of our games."
UP NEXT
- The Panthers stay on the road and take on No. 6 Florida State next Saturday at 1 p.m.
