ACC Network to Televise Pitt-Virginia Tech Contest
PITTSBURGH – The No. 4 Pitt volleyball team (12-1, 1-0 ACC) will host Virginia Tech (7-7, 0-1 ACC) for its ACC home opener Sunday at 4 p.m. at Fitzgerald Field House.

A WIN WOULD…
- Give the Panthers a 2-0 record in ACC play for the fifth consecutive season.
- Improve Pitt's record to 11-6 all-time against Virginia Tech and 6-2 when playing in Pittsburgh.
- Extend the Panthers' winning streak against the Hokies to six matches. Pitt's last loss against Virginia Tech came Nov. 25, 2015 (3-2) at home. The Panthers have won the last two meetings at Fitzgerald Field House (2016, 2017).
- Improve the Panthers' record to 30-2 when ranked inside the AVCA top 10 and 3-1 when ranked inside the top five.
LAST TIME OUT
- Pitt swept Virginia to open ACC play on the road Wednesday night at Memorial Gym.
- The Panthers earned their eighth sweep of the year (25-11, 25-17, 25-21), and their second when playing on the road.
- Redshirt senior Stephanie Williams posted a well-rounded stat line of 11 kills, eight digs and a career-high four service aces. Junior outside hitter Kayla Lund led Pitt with 12 kills on .579 hitting (12k-1e-19a) and added four digs.
- Pitt posted its second-best hitting percentage of the year at .409 while holding the Hoos to .184. The Panthers had the advantage in kills (46-30), assists (42-29), service aces (10-2), digs (32-25) and blocks (7.5-7.0).
NEW HEIGHTS
- Pitt earned its highest ranking in program history when it secured the No. 4 spot for Week 4 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Poll, as announced Monday afternoon.
- The Panthers rose two spots, up from No. 6, after splitting a home-and-home series with then-ranked No. 4 Penn State over the weekend.
- The ranking marks the 15th week in program history that Pitt has landed among the top 10 programs in the NCAA, and the second week ever in the top five.
- Pitt was ranked in the top 10 for 11 consecutive weeks in 2018, from Sept. 10-Nov. 19.
- The Panthers are 29-2 all-time when ranked inside the top 10, and 2-1 when ranked in the top five. Pitt earned a No. 5 ranking for the Week of Oct. 22, 2018, prior to its 23-match win streak ending at the hands of Duke, 3-1 (Oct. 28).
SCOUTING VIRGINIA TECH
- The Hokies (7-7, 0-1 ACC) are looking to snap a three-match slump when they visit Pittsburgh Sunday. Virginia Tech's last win came Sept. 20 versus Chattanooga at home (3-2).
- Virignia Tech is 1-4 when playing away from Blacksburg this season, with its lone road win coming at Air Force (Sept. 14), 3-1.
- Sophomore outside Tessa Wyner (2.98) and junior middle/rights side Marisa Cerchio (2.94) lead the Hokies in kills per set.
- Pitt currently has a five-match win streak against Virginia Tech dating back to 2016. The last four matches have all been sweeps.
- The Panthers are 10-6 all-time versus the Hokies, with a 5-2 record at home.
UP NEXT
- Pitt will begin a four-match road trip, starting with Miami (Oct. 4) and Florida State (Oct. 6).
