Women's Soccer Closes Out Non-Conference Slate At Liberty On Sunday

PITTSBURGH – The Pitt women's soccer team will look to close out their non-conference slate on a high note on Sunday afternoon as they head to Lynchburg, VA to take on the Liberty Flames. The Panthers and Flames will square off at 1:00 pm at Osborne Stadium as Pitt looks to wrap up non-conference play with a winning record for the second straight season.

- The Panthers will close out their non-conference slate on Sunday afternoon as they hit the road to take on the Liberty Flames at Osborne Stadium in Lynchburg, VA.
- The Pitt offense wasn't able to get on the board for the first time all season as the VCU Rams used a goal in the 79th minute to hand the Panthers a 1-0 defeat at Ambrose
Urbanic Field on Thursday night. - The Panthers were outshot 17-5 for the match as five different Pitt players recorded a single shot in the loss.
- The loss drops the Panthers to 2-1-1 on their home turf this season.
- The Liberty Flames enter Sunday afternoon's match against the Panthers with a 1-4-2 overall record after drawing Elon on Thursday night, 1-1. The Flames have played two ACC teams so far this season, Virginia Tech and Virginia, and own a 0-2 record while being outscored 9-0.
- Offensively, the Flames are being led by Kasey Jamieson who has started all seven matches and has three goals and one assist while Gabrielle Farrell has posted two goals, one assist and a team-high 27 shots.
- In goal, Liberty is led by Melody Jayroe who owns a 2.19 goals-against average while making 41 saves on the year.
- This marks the third meeting of all-time against the Flames with Pitt owning the 2-0-0 record in the series.
- Pitt won the last meeting against Liberty in 2015 by the score of 2-1 after collecting the 1-0 victory in the first-ever meeting in 2012.
- The Panthers are 3-0-1 all-time against teams from the ASUN Conference.
- With a team of 21 newcomers, it will take some time to find the right lineup that will help the Panthers succeed this season.
- Through seven matches, the Panthers have used six different starting XI combinations with just three Pitt players starting all seven matches this season.
- The Panthers used the same starting lineup in consecutive matches for the first time all season last time out in the 1-0 loss to VCU.
- The six different combinations have been successful in the early going for the Panthers as they have produced 11 goals through seven matches, the same amount Pitt produced in 17 matches a season ago.
- The Panthers are one of the youngest teams in the nation this season as they have 21 newcomers to the squad this season including a 17-player freshman class.
- So far this season, Pitt has started nine freshmen in different spots of the lineup. The nine freshman have combined to start 39 matches so far this season.
- Two freshmen have started all seven matches so far this season, Amanda West and Mackenzie Edwards.
- Freshman forward Amanda West has started off her career on a tear for the Panthers as she has notched at least one point in six of her teams first seven matches on the year.
- West is the first player in Pitt women's soccer history to net at least one goal in her first four career matches and the first Pitt freshman to open her career scoring at least one point in each of her first six career matches.
- Last time out, West was held off the scoresheet for the first time in her Pitt career as she notched just one shot across 80 minutes of work against VCU.
- She opened up her career with the best debut in program history as she netted a hat-trick and an assist including the game-winner in the 84th minute as Pitt handed Loyola Marymount the 5-4 defeat. Her seven points are the most in a game by a Pitt player since 2001 and most in Ambrose Urbanic Field history by a Panther.
- So far this season, the striker has netted seven goals, three assists and 17 points to go along with three game-winning goals. Her 17 points are the most in a season for a Pitt player since 2014 when Roosa Arvas netted 21 points.
- Earlier this year, West became just the second Panther in program history to earn ACC Offensive Player of the Week honors and the first Pitt freshman to do so. The last Panther to earn the weekly recognition was Taylor Pryce in 2015 when she was Co-Offensive Player of the Week.
- After opening her collegiate career with a clean sheet, freshman goalkeeper Caitlyn Lazzarini earned her second straight start in goal for the Panthers on Thursday night.
- The freshman had a solid effort on Thursday but she was handed the 1-0 loss after making three stops.
- Prior to the beginning of the 2019 campaign, the Pitt women's soccer team voted on captains for the season and selected senior Juliana Vazquez and junior Kentucky transfer Hollie Olding to lead the team this year.
- Vazquez is a four-year starter up front for the Panthers as she has appeared in 60 games while notching 51 starts over her impressive career.
- Olding joined the Panthers for her junior campaign after spending her last two seasons of collegiate soccer at Kentucky. The England native has been named team captain in each of her three seasons in college as she earned the badge as a freshman and sophomore for the Wildcats. For her career, Olding has appeared in 34 matches while making 22 starts as she has netted four goals and eight points so far in her career.
- Pitt will return home to begin ACC play as they welcome the Syracuse Orange to Ambrose Urbanic Field on Friday, September 20 for a 7:00 pm kick. It will make the 21st meeting between the two programs.
