Pitt to Return to Durham, N.H., for Conference Championship
PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh gymnastics team (7-16, 1-6 EAGL) will compete for the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) Championship when it travels to Durham, N.H., Saturday. The meet is set for 2 p.m. ET at Whittemore Center.
The Panthers will take on conference foes George Washington (15-15, 5-5 EAGL), New Hampshire (18-4, 6-2 EAGL), NC State (16-6, 6-1 EAGL), North Carolina (9-9, 3-3 EAGL) and Towson (7-15, 1-5 EAGL).

LAST TIME OUT
- Sophomore Haley Brechwald was named runner-up in the all-around competition as the Panthers completed their regular season inside SECU Arena at Towson Sunday afternoon.
- Competing all-around for the first time this season, Brechwald earned a score of 39.075. She made her season debut on floor, scoring a 9.75.
- The Panthers placed fifth (193.850) behind Maryland (196.450), George Washington (196.025), New Hampshire (195.050) and Towson (194.000).
PITT AT THE EAGL CHAMPIONSHIP
- Pitt will make its 24th consecutive appearance at the EAGL Championship, dating back to 1996 when the Panthers joined the league.
- The Panthers own one EAGL Championship in program history, won in 2016 with a score of 195.675.
- Pitt has finished fifth at the last two EAGL Championship meets, posting scores of 194.100 (2017) and 195.475 (2018).
SIX PANTHERS EARN ALL-EAGL HONORS
- Six Pitt gymnasts have earned all-conference honors from the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL), as announced Monday.
- Haley Brechwald, Lucy Brett, Olivia Miller, Alecia Petrikis, Charli Spivey and Brittany West each received recognition for their performances in 2019. The Panthers were represented on each of the five events: including vault, uneven bars, balance beam, floor exercise, and all-around.
- The teams are selected based on National Qualifying Scores (NQS), with the conference's top eight gymnasts (including ties) from the 11-week regular season comprising the All-EAGL First Team, and the ninth through 16th-ranked gymnasts (including ties) earning All-EAGL Second Team honors on each of the five events.
- Brechwald and Petrikis each earned a nod to the All-EAGL First Team for vault, as the duo led the Panthers with a NQS of 9.810. The honors are the first for both gymnasts, after each earned Second Team accolades on the event in 2018.
- Brett received her third consecutive selection to the ALL-EAGL Second Team for bars (2017, 2018, 2019). The North Somerset, U.K., native led the Panthers with an NQS of 9.780 for the event.
- For the first time in her career, West earned a spot on the All-EAGL First Team for beam. She received Second Team honors for the event in 2017. The senior out of Clermont, Fla., led the Panthers with an NQS of 9.825, ranking fifth in the conference.
- Spivey obtained the first All-EAGL honors of her career, landing on the Second Team for floor. The Enterprise, Ala., native was the Panthers' leader with an NQS of 9.835.
- Rounding out the Panthers' All-EAGL selections was Miller, who earned First Team honors for the all-around. The two-time EAGL Rookie of the Week ranks sixth in the league with an NQS of 38.100.
RANKING THE PANTHERS
- Senior Brittany West is fifth in the conference with a 9.845 NQS on beam, ranking 81st nationally.
- Freshman Olivia Miller is tied for 90th in the nation with an all-around NQS of 38.100, ranking sixth in the EAGL.
- As a team, Pitt is third in the league on vault (48.845 NQS) and beam (48.815 NQS).
SCOUTING THE COMPETITION
- The defending EAGL Champion NC State enters Saturday's meet with the highest NQS in the conference at 195.715. New Hampshire is next at 195.590, with George Washington in third at 195.335. Pitt ranks fourth at 194.810, followed by North Carolina (194.615) and Towson (193.310).
- North Carolina ranks first in the EAGL on two events: vault (48.970 NQS) and floor (49.130 NQS). Tarheel Khazia Hislop is the conference's individual NQS leader on those events, with scores of 9.890 on vault and 9.920 on floor.
- NC State owns the league's highest bars NQS at 49.005, and New Hampshire is the league leader on beam with a 49.015 NQS. The Wildcats' Danielle Mulligan leads the EAGL on two events: bars (9.895 NQS) and beam (9.860 NQS).
RETURNING TO DURHAM
- Pitt will return to Whittemore Center in Durham, N.H., for the second time this season.
- The Panthers last competed at the arena for their first road contest of the season (Jan. 18) against host New Hampshire as well as Bridgeport and Temple.
- Pitt was runner-up at the meet with a score of 193.725, behind the Wildcats (194.925). The Panthers defeated Bridgeport (193.575) and Temple (191.850).
