Pitt Gymnastics Set for Regular Season Finale at Towson

PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh gymnastics team (7-12, 1-3 EAGL) is set for its final meet before the EAGL Championship, taking on five teams Sunday at 2 p.m. in Towson, Md.

Pitt will face Maryland (13-8, 3-6 Big Ten) in addition to host and East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) opponent Towson (6-12, 0-3 EAGL), as well as conference foes George Washington (12-14, 2-5 EAGL) and New Hampshire (16-2, 4-1 EAGL).

LAST TIME OUT

Pitt faced three Top 25 opponents in a quad meet Sunday afternoon at the University of Denver.
The Panthers finished fourth with a score of 194.200, behind No. 6 Denver (197.675), No. 18 Nebraska (196.225) and No. 21 Arizona State (194.825).
Junior Deven Herbine earned two career-high scores on the day, with a 9.800 on beam and a 9.700 on floor. Freshman Olivia Miller placed fifth in the all-around competition with a score of 38.425.

SPIVEY NOMINATED FOR AAI AWARD

Charli Spivey is one of 25 student-athletes nominated for the 2019 AAI Award, given to the nation's most outstanding senior gymnast. Spivey leads the Panthers with a 9.835 NQS in the floor exercise.

RANKING THE PANTHERS

Junior Alecia Petrikis (T-87th, 9.810 NQS) is fifth in the EAGL with a 9.810 NQS on vault, ranking 97th nationally.
Other Panthers in the Top 100 national rankings include senior Brittany West (T-91, beam, 9.835 NQS) and freshman Olivia Miller (T-86, all-around, 38.100 NQS).

PITT VERSUS TOWSON

Pitt will meet Towson for the 42nd time in program history, with the Tigers leading the series, 25-16.
The teams last met at the 2018 EAGL Championship, where the Tigers outscored the Panthers, 195.475.
The Tigers rank sixth in each of the conference's event rankings except bars, where they are third with a NQS of 48.590.

PITT VERSUS GEORGE WASHINGTON

Pitt defeated George Washington earlier this season in a home dual meet, 195.175-194.625 (Jan. 26).
Overall, Pitt holds a 17-16 lead in the all-time series, entering the teams' 34th all-time meeting.
The Colonials' Alexandra Zois ranks second in the EAGL all-around rankings with a NQS of 39.265.

PITT VERSUS MARYLAND

Pitt and Maryland last met in a tri-meet at West Virginia on Feb. 18, 2018. The Terrapins edged the Panthers, 195.825-195.250, in that meeting.
Maryland holds a 37-20 advantage in the all-time series, entering the programs' 58th all-time meeting.

PITT VERSUS NEW HAMPSHIRE

Pitt will face the Wildcats for the second of three times this season, last meeting in the Panthers' first road meet of the year in Durham, N.H., on Jan. 18. Pitt placed second in that meet, behind the Wildcats, who earned a 194.925-193.725 win.
The Wildcats are 52-19 all-time against Pitt, entering the teams' 72nd meeting. New Hampshire will play host to the 2019 EAGL Championship, set for Saturday, March 23, at Whittemore Center Arena.
UNH's Danielle Mulligan leads the EAGL on bars (9.895 NQS), beam (9.860 NQS) and the all-around (39.285).
