Panthers Earn Third Consecutive Sweep to Begin ACC Play
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Junior right side hitter Chinaza Ndee led the No. 4 Pitt volleyball team (14-1, 3-0) with 12 kills as the Panthers earned their third consecutive sweep to open ACC play, topping Miami (6-5, 2-1) at the Knight Sports Complex Friday night.
The Panthers ended the Hurricane's four-match win streak with the victory.
Ndee hit .370 on the day, adding four blocks in the sweep. Redshirt senior outside hitter Stephanie Williams had a near double-double with nine kills and nine digs to go along with four assists. Senior middle Layne Van Buskirk and junior outside Kayla Lund had eight kills apiece, while sophomore middle Sabrina Starks contributed six.
Freshman Lexis Akeo carried the setting load for Pitt with 29 assists, with seven digs and the first solo block of her career.
The Panthers edged Miami in hitting percentage (.280-.192), kills (43-37), assists (40-36) and digs (35-34) while the Hurricanes had the upper hand in blocks (9.0-7.0).
WITH THE WIN…
Set One: No. 4 Pitt 26, Miami 24
The set was close for the entire frame, with neither team earning a lead of more than three. Pitt earned an 14-11 lead off an 8-4 run, but the Canes were able to tie it up, 18-18. The set locked again later at 21-21, but Pitt was able to edge Miami after earning two set points. Ndee led the Panthers with five kills on .400 hitting.
Set Two: No. 4 Pitt 25, Miami 23
Eight ties highlighted the second frame, with the latest at 10-10. Pitt pushed its lead to 19-13 after tripling Miami's output, but the Canes fought back with a 10-5 scoring run to make it 24-23, surviving five set points. Ndee secured the frame for the Panthers with her ninth kill of the match.
Set Three: No. 4 Pitt 25, Miami 17
After leading 9-6, the Panthers extended their margin with a 5-0 run (14-6). Later, a 4-0 run made it 22-14 in Pitt's favor, and the Panthers were able to finish the job with a 25-17 victory.

The Panthers will play their fifth match against a ranked opponent when they visit No. 23 Florida State Sunday in Tallahassee, Fla. The match will be televised at noon ET on ACC Network.
