Pitt Heads To Texas A&M For Arturo Barrios Invitational On Saturday

PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh cross country teams will travel down to Texas A&M to compete in their last regular season meet of the year on Saturday morning at the 2nd annual Arturo Barrios Invitational. The men's 8K race will open things up at 10:00 am followed by the women's 6K race at 10:45 am.

- Set to compete for the Panthers on the women's side are Brenda Ayuk, Sarah Frick, Corinne Firestone, Lily Robertson, Ally Brunton, Sam Shields, Katrina Durrwachter, Devon Hoernlein, Caroline Bolen and Maura Gallagher.
- Competing for the men are Alex Brokaw, Nick Cardamone, Evan Addison, Zach Lefever, Jackson Morton, Josh Higgins and Nick Wolk.
- The 32-team field for the 2nd annual Arturo Barrios Invitational will feature some stiff competition, including 18 men's programs and 17 women's programs ranked in the top 15 of their respective regions.
- No. 17 Middle Tennessee men come into the meet as the only nationally ranked team in the field.
- On the women's side, both Cal Baptist and Texas were receiving votes this week in the national top 30 polls.
- The last meet for the Panthers came two weeks ago as they traveled to Lehigh University to race in the 46th annual Paul Short Run (Oct. 5).
- The men's team posted a team score of 378 en route to a 13th place finish out of the field of 44 teams. The women were able to secure a top-20 team finish with a team score of 655, good enough for 20th place.
- The top finisher for the men was senior captain Nick Wolk, who led the way with a 22nd place finish in 23:54.82. A pair of Panthers also posted top-75 finishes in the field of 380 runners as Zach Lefever came in 36th place in 24:04.94 and Evan Addison notched a 75th place finish in 24:24.81.
- Senior captain Sam Shields was the top finisher on the women's side for the Panthers, crossing the finish line in 21:02.14 for 69th place. Junior Ally Brunton was close on her heels, finishing in 71st place in 21:02.32.
- Sophomore Devon Hoernlein continued her strong season with a 134th place finish in 21:31.06 while freshman Lily Robertson finished just behind her in 136th place in 21:31.50.
- The Panthers will return to action in two weeks as they head down to Blacksburg, VA to compete at the ACC Cross Country Championships hosted by Virginia Tech on Friday, November 1st.
