PITTSBURGH – The Pitt track and field teams will hit the road this weekend for a strong test as they head to Michigan for the two-day Power Five Invitational inside the U-M Indoor Track Building. The meet will run from Friday until Saturday with events beginning at 12:00 pm on Friday afternoon.

PITTSBURGH – The Pitt track and field teams will hit the road this weekend for a strong test as they head to Michigan for the two-day Power Five Invitational inside the U-M Indoor Track Building. The meet will run from Friday until Saturday with events beginning at 12:00 pm on Friday afternoon.

- Team competing this weekend are Michigan, Georgia Tech, Indiana, Kansas, Louisville, Michigan State, Minnesota, Pittsburgh, Vanderbilt, Wisconsin
- The depth in the field this weekend will give the Panthers a good preview for the ACC Indoor Championships that are set to take place in three weeks in Blacksburg, VA.
- The meet will begin on Friday afternoon at 12:00 pm with the men's Heptathlon, with the events being the 60 meter dash, long jump, shot put, and high jump.
- Friday action will conclude with the women's 3000 meter at around 7:10 pm.
- Saturday will begin at 9:30 am, starting with 60 meter hurdles for the men's Heptathlon. Saturday's competition will end around 3:10 pm with the men's 4x400m relay final.
- The Panthers competed in the Penn State National Open hosted by Penn State last weekend.
- Pitt collected a pair of individual winners and a relay victory at the Penn State National Open.
- Junior Aysha Muhammad won the 60m hurdles in a career best 8.53 seconds, which was her first indoor victory this season and is the sixth fastest time in school history at the event.
- With Muhammad, Eddita Pessima also qualified for the 60m hurdles and placed third with a career-best 8.55 seconds, the seventh fastest time in school history.
- For the second straight week, the women's 4x400m relay team of Flora Ahiarakwe, Nikki Scherer, Nina Crawford and Sydni Townsend picked up the win, finishing 3:41.79, crushing their previous best of 3:43.92.
- Sophomore Greg Lauray continued to impress in the high jump as he cleared a height of 2.06m to tally his first win in the event this season. This marked his second best jump of the season as he set the second highest mark in school history with 2.11m earlier this season.
- For the men, senior Nate Sloan posted a career-best time in the 800m (1:51.02), while junior Shyheim Wright hit 7.98 in the 60m hurdles and placed fifth in the finals with a times of 8.00 seconds. Both times hit ACC qualifying standards. Freshman Matt Wilson also took home a second place finish in the 300m run, posting a personal-best and team-best time of 34.40 seconds.
- For the women. Sophomore Jaylyn Aminu posted a personal-best time in the 60m dash (7.57 seconds). The Panthers also had a pair of top-5 finishers in the 400m run as Townsend took second with a personal-best time (54.97 seconds), while teammate Nikki Scherer posted a season-best in the event (55.86 seconds), taking fourth place.
- In the 300m dash, Ahiarakwe (40.07 seconds), Muhammad (40.33 seconds), and Pessima (40.54 seconds) all posted season-best times.
- Alexis Leech also posted a season-best time in the 600m run (1:35.62).
- The Panthers will return to the track next weekend as they head to Kent, OH to take part in the Doug Raymond Invitational hosted by the Kent State Golden Flashes. The meet will begin on Friday and run through Saturday.
