
Pitt To Entertain Clemson On Sunday Afternoon

PITTSBURGH – The Pitt women's basketball team (9-9, 0-4 ACC) will play their third straight home contest on Sunday afternoon as they welcome ACC foe Clemson to the Petersen Events Center at 2:00 pm. The Panthers will look to end a four-game skid while the Tigers have won four straight and have posted a 13-5 overall record with a 4-1 ACC mark on the year.

- The Panthers are looking to avoid their second 0-5 start in ACC play since joining the conference in 2013-14.
- One of the keys during Panther victories this season has been winning the battle in the paint as they own a 9-2 record this year when out-scoring opponents inside and a 0-7 mark when not doing so.
- The Panthers (9-9, 0-4 ACC) were within striking distance of #12 Syracuse at halftime on Thursday but the Orange exploded in the third quarter to hand Pitt the 82-50 defeat.
- Syracuse was able to outscore the Panthers 44-18 in the second half to claim their 15th win of the season.
- Senior Cassidy Walsh was the lone Pitt player to score in double figures as she netted 13 points, four rebounds and two assists while connecting on three triples in the loss.
- Junior Jasmine Whitney finished off her game with seven points and a team-high four assists while Danielle Garven added seven points and four boards and Cara Judkins chipped in with a team-high seven rebounds in the loss.
- As a team, the Panthers were out-rebounded 51-32 for the game while the Orange also out-scored Pitt 26-4 in the second chance scoring category.
- The Clemson Tigers come to town winners of four straight in ACC play as they own a 13-5 overall record and a 4-1 ACC mark. The Tigers picked up te 71-61 victory on Thursday night over Georgia Tech at home.
- The Tigers are being led offensively by Kobi Thornton who is averaging 16.5 points and 8.3 rebounds across an average of 30.2 minutes/game. Senior Simone Westbrook is also enjoying a nice season as she is averaging 14.9 points, 4.2 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 3.3 steals while playing 30.2 minutes/game.
- Senior point guard Danielle Edwards leads the team averaging 31.6 minutes/game while also posting 13.9 points, 3.4 rebounds and 2.9 steals while connecting on a team-high 19 triples on the year.
- As a team, the Tigers are averaging 71.6 points/game while holding their opponents to 64.6 points/game. The Clemson defense is forcing an average of 21.6 turnovers/game while also out-rebounding their opponents 41.4 to 38.4.
- Amanda Butler is in her first season at Clemson and her 13th season overall as a head coach. Butler has led the Tigers to 13 wins on the year, already besting last season's win total of 11. She has accumulated a 243-164 record across her coaching career.
- Pitt will wrap up their four-game homestand on Thursday night as they welcome the Virginia Cavaliers to the Petersen Events Center for a 7:00 pm tip.
- The Panthers will then play three of their next four on the road starting with nationally ranked Louisville on Sunday, Jan. 27 at 2:00 pm.
