Panthers Head To Virginia Tech This Weekend For The Hokie Invitational

PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh track and field teams will hit the road this weekend to take part in the Hokie Invitational hosted by Virginia Tech inside the Rector Field House on Friday and Saturday.

SCOUTING THE FIELD
- Team competing this weekend are Virginia Tech, Duke, NC State, Pitt, Wake Forest, Tennessee, Florida (Throwers), East Carolina, Radford, Liberty, UNC-Charlotte, Elon, North Carolina A&T, Winthrop, and Roanoke College.
- The meet will begin on Friday evening at 5:00 pm with track and field events.
- Pole Vault, Triple jump and weight throw will take place on Friday beginning at 5:00 pm in the field events.
- On the track, the women's mile run will open up the meet at 5:00 pm followed by some of the other track events. The meet will conclude on Friday night at 8:50 pm with the men's 300m run.
- On Saturday, the women's pole vault final and high jump will open things up at 11:00 am.
- The track events on Saturday will kick off at 12:45 pm with the women's 400m run and will conclude at 3:45 pm with the men's 4x400m relay.
- The Panthers competed in the Nittany Lion Challenge hosted by Penn State.
- Pitt saw one individual and two relays take home titles while seven individuals collected top-5 finishes for the Panthers.
- Sophomore Nikki Scherer had a strong performance in the 400m run as she claimed the victory in 56.23 seconds. Fellow Panther Flora Ahiarakwe took home third place in the same event finishing in 57.56 seconds.
- The Panthers also saw a pair of relay squads take home wins at the Nittany Lion Challenge as the quartet of Emily Burd, Erin O'Connell, Erin Keelan and Caelan Miller won the 4x800m relay in a season-best time of 9:26.35. On the men's side, the 4x800m relay team of Drew Glick, Nate Sloan, Evan Addison and Zach Lefever claimed the win in 7:48.23.
- Also taking home top-5 finishes for Pitt were Sydni Townsend in the 800m run (2nd place) Shyheim Wright in the 60m hurdles (3rd place), Aysha Muhammad in the 60m hurdles (3rd place), Erin O'Connell in the 800m run (4th place) and Dante' Watson in the 600m run (4th place).
- The Panthers will return to the track next weekend as they head to University Park, PA to take part in the Penn State National Open on Friday and Saturday.
