Panthers to Face Cardinals Friday Night at Lynn Stadium
PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh men's soccer team will travel to Louisville, Ky., to face the sixth-ranked Cardinals Friday, Sept. 21 at 7:30 p.m. at Lynn Stadium.

LAST TIME OUT
- Pitt earned a 2-0 victory over Detroit Mercy Tuesday, Sept. 18 at Ambrose Urbanic Field in Pittsburgh, Pa.
- Senior Javi Perez and sophomore Marcony Pimentel each recorded goals in the match, with freshman Alec Townsend adding an assist.
- The Panthers closed the match with advantages in shots (16-2), shots on goal (7-1) and corners (6-2).
SURVEYING THE STATS
- Five different Panthers have scored a goal so far this season in Perez, Pimentel, redshirt senior Robby Dambrot, sophomore Edward Kizza and redshirt freshman Fiorre Mane.
- Kizza leads the team with five scores, followed by Perez with two. Dambrot, Mane and Pimentel have each netted one goal apiece.
- Pitt has also seen seven players record assists on the season.
- Dambrot, Pimentel, Townsend, sophomores Alexander Dexter and Jose Luis Sena Arbona and freshmen Nyk Sessock and Chandler Vaughn have all added one helper each.
SIZING UP THE 2018 SLATE
- Pitt faces some tough competition in the 2018 season, with a schedule that includes 12 NCAA Tournament teams from a year ago.
- The Panthers have already faced three ranked opponents this season in then-ranked No. 25 Colgate, No. 4 Akron and No. 5 North Carolina.
- Of Pitt's remaining 11 matches, six teams are currently ranked in the top 25 of the United Coaches Poll, while one other squad is receiving votes.
KIZZA COMMANDING ATTENTION
- Coming off a freshman season in which he scored four goals, Kizza has already notched five goals just six games into the 2018 slate.
- The Kampala, Uganda native currently leads the team in shots (16), shots on goal (11), points (10) and goals (5).
- Kizza netted three goals in Pitt's second match of the season against Delaware Monday, Aug. 27, making him just the 20th player in program history to record a hat trick.
- The sophomore's goal in the opening minutes of the contest was also the quickest goal to start a game in school history, coming just 1:40 into the match and besting the previous record of 1:58 set in 2006.
THE SERIES – LOUISVILLE
- The Panthers and Cardinals have met just four times in program history, with Louisville owning a 4-0 series edge over Pitt.
- In their most recent meeting, the Cardinals earned a 2-0 road win against Pitt Friday, Sept. 9, 2016.
- The teams' first meeting came in 2006, with Louisville nudging out a 2-1 victory over the Panthers in Pittsburgh, Pa.
SCOUTING THE CARDINALS
- Louisville enters Friday's match with a 4-1-1 overall record, including a 2-0-0 mark in ACC play.
- The Cardinals have consistently stayed within the top 10 of the United Soccer Coaches Poll, and recently moved up one spot from last week's No. 7 ranking heading into Friday's match with the Panthers.
- The 2017 Cardinal squad finished last season with a 13-2-5 (5-2-1 ACC) record en route to an appearance in the NCAA Tournament, where they advanced to the Elite Eight before falling to Akron in a shootout.
- Louisville is led by head coach Ken Lolla, who enters his 13th season with the program. Lolla has compiled a 357-157-65 (.673) record during more than 28 years as a head coach and owns a 148-73-37 (.645) record with the Cardinals.
- Through six games, seniors Geoffrey Dee and Adam Wilson and junior Cherif Dieye lead the team with two goals apiece. Junior Kino Ryosuke and sophomores Ziyad Fekri and Elijah Amo have added one goal each.
- In goal, two keepers have split time so far this season for the Cardinals in sophomores Jake Gelnovatch and Will Meyer.
- Gelnovatch has started four matches, collecting eight saves while allowing three goals. Meyer has made two starts, recording three saves while giving up three scores.

- The Panthers will return to Pittsburgh, Pa., for their first of five consecutive home matches as they play their rescheduled match against No. 18 NC State Tuesday, Sept. 25 at 7 p.m. at Ambrose Urbanic Field.
