Fosam, Middleton Pick Up Second Team Honors for Pitt
CLEMSON, S.C. – Senior Andin Fosam and sophomore Taylor Middleton picked up All-ACC second team honors for Pitt on the second day of the ACC Indoor Track & Field Championships at Clemson Indoor Track & Field Complex Friday.
Fosam earned her second consecutive second team accolades in women's weight throw by placing fourth with a toss of 20.24m. By placing second, she earned five points for the women in the team standings.
Middleton's honor is the first of her career. She took fourth place in women's long jump with a lifetime best mark of 6.07m and picked up five points in the women's team standings. She will vie for the triple jump crown Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
"There are always going to be ups and downs in any championship track and field meet and today was no different," head coach Alonzo Webb said. "Points that we expected in a few events didn't materialize but we also had a few nice performances from some others. These things usually tend to balance themselves out. We are focused on the final day looking to capitalize on the opportunities that we have and to finish on a high note. Desiree Garland had an outstanding day setting personal bests and qualifying for finals in the 200m and 400m dashes. Taylor Middleton had a lifetime best finishing fourth in the women's long jump. Also, redshirt freshman Jabari Michael-Khensu and true freshman Ade Jones-Roundtree both setting personal bests and qualifying for the 200m final. After completing a seven-event heptathlon over two days freshman Kollin Smith was able to set a personal best and score in the long jump."
The Panthers had two scorers on the men's side, both freshmen: Greg Lauray in high jump and Kollin Smith in long jump. Lauray placed eighth with a jump of 2.06m (6-foot-9). Smith took eighth place at 7.34m. The Upper Marlboro, Md., native also completed the final three events of the men's heptathlon and ultimately placed 10th with 4,488 points.
