
Garland Crowned Pitt’s First ACC Women’s Indoor Track & Field Champion

Senior Wins 400m Dash to Collect Gold Medal
CLEMSON, S.C. – University of Pittsburgh senior Desiree Garland earned the first ACC women's indoor track & field gold medal in program history with a win in the 400m dash Saturday at Clemson Indoor Track & Field Complex.
The Duquesne, Pa., native's time of 53.16 in the final was a personal best mark. With the win, Garland became the first Panther to earn All-ACC women's indoor first team honors. The All-ACC accolades are the first of her career.
She earned the Panthers' fourth overall ACC indoor title in program history, and the third ACC indoor individual championship, joining Carvin Nkanata (200m, 2014) and Andrew Wells (weight throw, 2016). The men's indoor 4x400m relay team of Micah Murray, Nkanata, Desmond Palmer and Brycen Spratling was champion in 2014.
Garland picked up another point for the Panthers by competing in the 200m final just an hour after her 400m win, placing eighth at 24.43.
As a team, the Pitt women tied their most points earned since joining the league in 2013-14 with 26 and placed 12th. The men finished with nine points and placed 14th.

- To kick off the final day of competition, junior Miranda Salvo clocked a personal best time of 4:46.08 to place sixth in the women's mile final and earn a spot on the All-ACC second team for the first time in her career.
- After becoming the first Panther to qualify for the men's ACC indoor 800m final, sophomore Danté Watson picked up a point by finishing eight at 1:51.77.
- Pitt had two freshman scorers in the men's 200m in Jabari Michael-Khensu who placed fifth at 21.10 and Ade Jones-Roundtree who finished eighth at 21.34. Michael-Khensu earned All-ACC second team honors with his finish, marking the first accolades of his career.
