
Pitt Posts Highest Road Score in Program History at TWU

Panthers Record-Setting Day Leads to Second Place Finish at TWU Quad Meet.
DENTON, TEXAS – The University of Pittsburgh gymnastics team recorded the highest road score in program history en route to a second place finish at its quad meet against Texas Woman's University, No. 15 Auburn and East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) foe NC State Sunday afternoon at Kitty Magee Arena.
The Panthers jumped into the record book in multiple categories, both as a team and individually. Pitt's team score of 196.100 was its highest mark ever in a road meet, and ranks fifth overall in program history.
The Panthers 49.250 on bars is tied for the second-best mark in program history. Pitt posted a 49.050 on beam, which ranks seventh in the Panthers record book. The team also posted a 48.950 on floor and a 48.850 on vault.
"I'm extremely proud of this team for their performance today," said head coach Samantha Snider. "They were confident and stayed focused from the very first routine to the very last routine. This was a great opportunity for a solid road score and we capitalized on that."
Individually, freshman Haley Brechwald cracked Pitt's record book with a season-high score of 39.325 in the all-around, which is tied for the seventh-best mark in program history. Her previous season-high of 39.300 was tied for ninth in program history. Brechwald's impressive day led her to an individual title in the all-around.
FLOOR
The Panthers started the afternoon on floor, where Brechwald led the team with a season-high tying 9.875. Following Brechwald was junior Charli Spivey, who posted a 9.800. Sophomore Alecia Petrikis scored a 9.775, followed by senior Catie Conrad and freshman Jordan Ceccarini, who each finished with a 9.750.
Auburn led the way after the first rotation, earning a 49.250. Pitt followed behind with a 48.950. After that was TWU at 48.900 and NC State with a 48.675.
VAULT
Pitt moved to vault in the second rotation. Sophomore Deven Herbine tied a career-high in the event, earning a 9.825 to lead the Panthers. Conrad posted a season-high score of 9.775. Pitt also saw three Panther gymnasts earn a 9.750 in freshman Sophie Bochenek (season-high), Petrikis and Brechwald.
After two rotations, Auburn held onto their lead, sitting at 98.500. Pitt followed in second place with a 97.800. NC State jumped into third place with a 97.775, followed by TWU with a 97.725.
BARS
Next up for the Panthers was bars, where the team saw strong performances all around. Three Pitt gymnasts recorded a 9.875 in the event. The mark tied a season-high for Brechwald, tied a career-high for junior Lucy Brett and was a personal best for sophomore Megan Tripp. Conrad followed the trio with a 9.825. After Conrad was sophomore Lucy Jones at 9.800, with sophomore Rachel Dugan rounding out the team at 9.725.
The rankings remained the same after three rotation. The Tigers held the top spot with a 147.500, followed by the Panthers at 147.050. The Wolfpack ranked third with a 146.950, followed by the Pioneers at 146.025.
BEAM
Pitt closed the meet on beam. The Panthers once again had three gymnasts tie for the top spot on the team in Brechwald (season-high), Brett (tied season-high) and Conrad, who each earned a 9.825. Senior Taylor Laymon followed with a career-high 9.800. Following Laymon was Herbine with a career-high 9.775 and Tripp with a 9.700.
Auburn finished the meet in first place with a 196.500, followed by Pitt at 196.100. NC State placed third with a 195.925, followed by TWU at 195.200.
UP NEXT
The Panthers will head to Morgantown, W. Va., where they will face West Virginia and Maryland in a tri-meet Sunday, Feb. 18.
