
Diop Records 1,000th Career Point as Pitt Falls to Eagles, 72-61

Redshirt Junior Becomes 19th Player in Program History to Reach Milestone
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Redshirt junior forward Yacine Diop became the 19th player in program history to record 1,000 career points as Pitt women's basketball (10-15, 2-10 ACC) fell on the road at Boston College (7-18, 2-10 ACC), 72-61, Sunday afternoon at Conte Forum.
Diop ended the game with team highs of 22 points and nine rebounds, marking her seventh game of 20 or more points this season. She was the lone Panther to reach double-figure scoring. Junior center Kalista Walters had nine points and five rebounds, and Kauai Bradley and Danielle Garven had eight points apiece.
The Eagles outshot the Panthers, 45.7 percent to 36.8 percent, and scored 19 points off 19 Pitt turnovers. Four from Boston College had double figures in the scoring column, led by Georgia Pineau with a game-high 23 points.
It took Diop five minutes and 32 seconds into the game to record her eighth point and reach the 1,000-point plateau for her career. She hit a 3-pointer at the 4:28 mark to notch the milestone and give the Panthers a 12-6 lead. Pitt led by as many as 10 in the first period, at the 2:06 mark (18-18) and at 1:29 (20-10). The Eagles ended the quarter on a 5-0 run to make it 20-15 at the first break.
Following a 4-0 start in the second quarter with all points coming from Diop, Boston College answered with a 13-2 run to take its first lead (28-26) at 3:14 since the game was 2-0 in the first. Back-to-back triples from Bradley, including one at the halftime buzzer, helped the Panthers regain the lead (34-40) going into the locker room.
The Panthers used a 7-0 run to take a 42-36 lead at 5:52 in the third quarter, but the Eagles answered with a 7-0 run of their own to make it 43-42 at 4:13. Over the final four minutes of the third stanza, the lead changed twice before a Kyla Nelson 3-pointer at the horn tied the game for the fifth time, 49-49.
Boston College used an 8-0 start to the fourth quarter to gain momentum with 7:47 left to play, up 57-49. The Panthers' first points of the final period came with 6:35 remaining, on a Diop jumper (57-51). The Eagles scored just three more field goals for the contest but went 9-of-13 from the free throw line over the final six minutes. In total, BC outscored the Panthers 23-12 in the fourth quarter to secure the win, 72-61.

MILESTONES
- Redshirt junior Yacine Diop became the Panthers' first 1,000-point scorer since Brianna Kiesel in 2013-14. She is the 19th Panther to score 1,000 or more points in school history.
- With three assists against Boston College, point guard Jasmine Whitney tied Aysia Bugg (2015-16) for the fourth-most assists made by a sophomore in school history with 117.
- With one steal against the Eagles, junior center Kalista Walters reached 100 for her career.
