Pitt Owns Current 12-Match Win Streak Versus Boston College
PITTSBURGH – The No. 8 University of Pittsburgh volleyball team (16-0, 5-0 ACC) will continue Pitt Retro weekend Sunday afternoon, breaking out its alternate uniforms for a second time against Boston College (12-5, 2-3 ACC) at 1 p.m. at Fitzgerald Field House.

LAST TIME OUT
- No. 8 Pitt handed Syracuse (8-5, 4-1) its first ACC loss of the season to remain perfect with a win at Fitzgerald Field House Friday evening.
- Two of the four sets were light work for the Panthers, topping the Orange 25-9 in the first set and 25-11 to close out the match in the fourth. Pitt claimed the second set, 25-23, before falling just short by the same score in the third.
- Sophomore outside hitter Kayla Lund led the Panthers with a notable all-around performance, recording 21 kills and 12 digs, marking her third 20-kill performance of the season and her eighth double-double. Junior outside hitter Nika Markovic produced 18 kills for the Panthers on a scorching .469 hitting percentage. Junior middle Layne Van Buskirk continued her strong season, adding 11 kills and tying a season-high nine blocks.
- Redshirt junior outside hitter Stephanie Williams provided a spark defensively, recording a match-high and season-high 13 digs. Senior setter Kamalani Akeo had 24 assists and nine digs, falling just short of her fifth double-double of the season.
- Pitt outhit its opponent once again, .319 to .157. The Panthers were all over the floor, out-digging the Orange 58 to 40. Pitt nearly doubled Syracuse in kills, 65-38. The Orange edged the Panthers in blocks 15.0 to 10.5.
A WIN WOULD…
- Extend the Panthers' best start to a season in school history, improving to 17-0.
- Extend the Panthers' longest win streak since 1987, when the team won 24 consecutive matches.
- Give Pitt a 6-0 start to ACC play for the second consecutive season.
- Improve the Panthers' home record to 13-0, and 5-0 against ACC opponents.
- Be Pitt's 13th consecutive win against Boston College, dating back to 2000. The Panthers' last loss against the Eagles came Oc.t 1, 2000, 3-2, in Chestnut Hill, Mass.
- Be Pitt's 15th consecutive win against Boston College when playing at Fitzgerald Field House. The Panthers are unbeaten when playing against Eagles when playing in Pittsburgh, at 14-0 all-time.
AND THEN THERE WERE TWO
- No. 8 Pitt is one of two unbeaten teams in the country (16-0), along with No. 1 BYU (16-0).
- The Panthers are one of two remaining teams unbeaten in ACC play, along with 2017 ACC Co-Champion Louisville (12-4, 5-0).
RANKING THE PANTHERS
- Pitt remains No. 8 for the second consecutive week in the AVCA Coaches Poll. This marks the Panthers' highest national ranking in program history.
- The Panthers' top ranking prior to the 2018 season came in 1990 when the squad was No. 17.
- The Panthers debuted at No. 6 in the first release of the NCAA Volleyball Rating Percentage Index (RPI), Monday, Oct 1.
SCOUTING THE EAGLES
- Boston College (12-5, 2-3 ACC) will look to snap a three-match losing streak when it visits Pitt Sunday afternoon.
- After winning its first two ACC contests at home against Clemson (3-0) and Georgia Tech (3-1), the Eagles have fallen in their last three road outings at Duke (3-0), Wake Forest (3-2) and Virginia (3-2).
- Junior right side Cat Balido paces the Eagles with 2.66 kills per set on a hitting percentage of .157. Sophomore Ally Mullen is the team leader in hitting percentage at .313, with 1.34 kills per set and a team-high 1.11 blocks per set.
- As a team, the Eagles put forth 12.7 kills per set and limit opponents to a .162 hitting percentage.
THE SERIES – BOSTON COLLEGE
- Pitt owns a 30-1 advantage in the all-time series against the Eagles, with a 14-0 record when playing at Fitzgerald Field House.
- The Panthers have won the last 12 meetings between the teams, with its only loss in the series coming Oct. 1, 2000, 3-2, in Chestnut Hill, Mass.
