No. 8 Pitt Volleyball Sweeps Eagles to Improve to 17-0

Panthers Topple Boston College, 3-0
PITTSBURGH – The No. 8 University of Pittsburgh volleyball team (17-0, 6-0 ACC) defeated Boston College (12-6, 2-4 ACC) in straight sets Sunday at Fitzgerald Field House to remain unbeaten on the season.
Sophomore outside hitter Kayla Lund notched a team-high 14 kills while attacking at a .258 clip, and junior right side Nika Markovic followed with 10 kills on a .350 percentage. Redshirt junior outside hitter Stephanie Williams recorded nine kills on a .429 attacking percentage while leading the team with 11 digs.
Setters Kylee Levers and Kamalani Akeo led the playmaking for Pitt, recording 21 and 20 assists, respectively.
Pitt edged the Eagles in kills (46-43) and assists (44-38). The Panthers held BC to an attacking percentage of .277, while the Eagles out-dug Pitt (37-33).
WITH THE WIN…
Set One: No. 8 Pitt 25, Boston College 22
After the Panthers started the set down 1-3, neither team was able to gain a lead of more than two points until Pitt pulled ahead, 16-13. The Panthers capped a 5-1 run to tie their largest lead of the set at 18-14. Ahead 23-18, the Eagles tallied four consecutive points to cut the Panthers' lead to 23-22, prompting a Pitt timeout. Out of the break, the Panthers secured the final two points to win the set 25-22.
The set saw seven ties and two lead changes. Lund and sophomore middle Chinaza Ndee each had four kills in the set, as the team attacked at a .361 clip with 16 total kills.
Set Two: No. 8 Pitt 25, Boston College 22
Another tightly-contested set with seven ties and three lead changes, as neither team gained traction until Pitt fired off five consecutive points to bring the score to 11-6. The Panthers retained their lead, holding a 17-14 advantage until Boston College won three consecutive points to knot the set at 17-17. Pitt pulled ahead to a 23-21 lead, where the Eagles called timeout before conceding two of the next three points as the Panthers claimed the second set, 25-22.
As a team, the Panthers had an attacking percentage of .312 with five blocks. Williams had four kills and four digs in the frame.

Pitt came out of the gate in a flourish, taking an early 3-0 lead. With a 4-3 lead, the Panthers went on to record four consecutive points to bring the score to 8-3. After the Eagles cut the lead to 9-7, Pitt tallied seven of the next eight points, including four in a row to pull ahead 16-9. The Panthers did not relinquish the lead for the remainder of the match, as going on to take the deciding set, 25-21.
In the set, Lund recorded seven kills while attacking at a .417 clip. As a team, Pitt attacked at .257 in the third set with 15 assists.
