- Following her career performance against No. 2/2 Louisville with 26 points, redshirt junior forward Yacine Diop has cracked the ACC top 10 in scoring average, ranking 10th with 16.2 points per game.
- Junior center Kalista Walters continues to lead the ACC in field goal percentage (.653), ranking fifth in the country. She ranks fourth in the league with 1.89 blocked shots per game.
- Sophomore point guard Jasmine Whitney is third in the ACC with an assist/turnover ratio of 2.26, and is fifth in the league with 4.6 assists per game. Last time out, she tied a season high with eight dimes against No. 2/2 Louisville (Jan. 18).
- The Panthers remain second in the country in total blocked shots (127), behind the nation's leader, William & Mary (135). Pitt leads the ACC in blocked shots per game (6.7), ranking seventh in the country.
A WIN WOULD…
- Snap a 12-game losing streak in the all-time series against Syracuse. Pitt's last win against the Orange came Jan. 24, 2009, in the Carrier Dome (77-75).
- Snap a six-game losing streak when playing in the Carrier Dome, dating back to 2009.
- Snap a 12-game losing streak in ACC road games. Pitt's last road win in league play came Feb. 18, 2016, at North Carolina (76-70).
- Snap a five-game losing streak in overall road games, dating to the Panthers' 66-46 win at Cincinnati Nov. 21.
LAST TIME OUT
- Redshirt junior forward Yacine Diop tied a career high with 26 points for Pitt in a hard-fought battle against No. 2/2 Louisville as the Panthers came up short, 77-51, Thursday night at Petersen Events Center.
- The game marked Diop's sixth game with 20 or more points this season and her third since the start of ACC play.
- Junior center Kalista Walters recorded her fifth double-double of the year for Pitt with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore point guard Jasmine Whitney tied a season high with eight assists and added four points. Off the bench, sophomore Alayna Gribble had nine points on three 3-pointers, and freshman forward Cara Judkins produced a career-high six rebounds as well as two points.
- Louisville junior guard Asia Durr, who entered the contest as the ACC's leading scorer with 21.1 points per game, was limited to nine points. Senior Myisha Hines-Allen had a double-double of 13 points and 18 rebounds.
- The Cardinals outshot the Panthers, 49.2 percent (29-of-59) to 42.0 percent (21-of-50), and had the upper hand on the boards, 36-26.
NEW YEAR, NEW YACINE
- Since the start of 2018, redshirt junior forward Yacine Diop is averaging 21.8 points and 6.8 rebounds per game, with two double-doubles in five games played. In her previous four games, she averaged 7.5 points and 4.0 rebounds per game.
- The Dakar, Senegal, native has tied a career high of 26 points twice in 2018, against Wake Forest in the Panthers' first game of the calendar year (Jan. 4) and against No. 2/2 Louisville (Jan. 18).
- Diop is 70 points away from reaching 1,000 for her career. She is on pace to become the 19th 1,000-point scorer in school history, and the first to reach the milestone since Brianna Kiesel did as a junior in 2013-14.
SCOUTING THE ORANGE
- Receiving votes in both the AP and USA TODAY Coaches Polls, Syracuse (14-5, 2-4 ACC) is looking to snap a two-game losing streak when it hosts the Panthers Sunday at the Carrier Dome. The Orange recently dropped contests at NC State (60-56) and Miami (72-67).
- Syracuse is unbeaten at the Carrier Dome this season (9-0, 2-0 ACC).
- Sophomore guard Tiana Mangakahia averages a double-double with 17.7 points and an ACC-high 10.3 assists per game. Redshirt junior forward Miranda Drummond adds 17.0 points and 6.5 rebounds per game.
- The Orange leads the ACC with 9.4 threes made per game, with Drummond and sophomore Gabrielle Cooper combining for 5.2 made per game.
- Syracuse leads the all-time series with Pitt, 39-19, and has won 12 consecutive games against the Panthers. The Orange holds a 21-7 advantage when playing in Syracuse, N.Y. Pitt's last win at the Carrier Dome came Jan. 24, 2009 (77-75).
